A stylish custom handcrafted cover for a Harpsychord.. Such delicate beauty deserves only the best moving protection.. and this is where we step in. Cotton-like soft insides with an “X-trem tech” waterproof nylon cover with a reinforced external layer, providing a strong protection but yet, delicate on the inside.. Thanks to http://rmsevillano.com for the awesome picture

There is no small part or detail for our cover solutions, either it is for a Harpsichord or for the smaller elements of it. In any case, we have a solution for it or we build it! - customized, size to fit, which will be like a glove and protect the instrument or its parts like an eggshell protects its baby bird. An artisan crafted cover for an artisan crafted instrument. We only deliver the best to the best, what else?

Deconstruction and reconstruction. Pulled out all the guts that were weighing the organ down. My plan is to turn this into a much lighter and versatile, modular synthesizer. A lot of work ahead of me on this one. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Necks in the making. Fanfret for an electric mandolalin build. The others for tiple/double stringed ukuleke kind of things. Ideas evolve every day 😁 #mandolin #mandola #tiple #ukulele #instrumentbuilding #lutherie #luthier #oneofakind

Components of a gourd banjo - everything (at last!) made and working (on the fourth test assembly) - so time to apply a finish to the wood before final assembly #banjo #gourdbanjo #instrumentbuilding #craft #diy #banjoconstruction #amatuerluthiery #folk #folkcraft

I left Port Dover at 5 am and drove 10 hours to the Marc Adams School of Woodworking in Franklin Indiana. I am fortunate to be assisting John Ressler as he teaches 14 students to build a ukelele. We finished setting up at 9 pm, the last step being assembling and hanging some very tasteful Hawaiian decorations. Class begins tomorrow and runs until Friday. This will be fun!

This is a light box we just finished. We have made a few of these in the past and this is the latest iteration. We use this for varnishing an instrument. The UV light polymerizes the oil in the finish and it can also be used to tan the wood in the instrument before varnishing for for depth of color. The last video is the humidification process. We bought a pump used for waterfalls in a reptile terrarium from @bluefishaquarium. The pump cycles water into a trough that then drips onto a screen. A fan in the light box pulls air through the screen and it humidifies the air in the box. This helps with the health of the instrument and also intensified the tanning process.

Prototype for a workshop I'm doing next month with the simple title "Laser Cut Keyboard". Materials used are MDF, cardboard and a rubber band. I haven't finished designing the circuit for it yet but it's based on the 555 timer IC and will produce 5 square wave tones.

The PCB design will aim to allow the participants to assemble a working circuit without solder. The workshop is aimed at 8-12 year olds but older people could make this too! Will be designing the circuit next, watch this space

For my lady’s birthday I decided to (try to) build her a Kantele, a Finnish/Karelian traditional 5 string Zither, kind of part way between a harp and a dulcimer. I’m stoked with how well it came out, given that I’ve never built much of anything, let alone a stringed instrument from scratch before. The soundboard is Carpathian Spruce, the frame is Tasmanian oak and the dark lines interspersed throughout are Rosewood. The ‘ponsi’ (what a guitarist would call the bridge) is some unidentified, reclaimed Australian hardwood and the ‘varras’ (the metal bar) was made from an old screwdriver which I cut and ground down. The only part I didn’t personally build is the five Zither pins at the top and some rubber feet underneath. It’s tuned to a D minor pentatonic scale, which is matched to the fundamental F overtone of the soundboard. The strings are nickel steel Irish bazouki strings. I tried to employ as many traditional Finnish build techniques as I could (no screws or nails, only glue and wood) and over half of the job was made without any power tools. That said, the tree image at the top I cut with a laser because ain’t nobody got time for that. The finish is Tung Oil which polished up amazing. It sounds pretty haunting and very Scandinavian. Total build time was about 90 hours, and two splinters. Happy birthday, Tashy! 🎂 ❤ 🇫🇮 #suomi #suomalainen #kantele #instrumentbuilding #folkinstruments #zither
