In the TV and modelling industry we are too often told that we are not enough. It’s always- you’re too fat, you’re too skinny, you look tired. They want to change your weight, change your hair, change the imperfections that make each individual human beautiful. I have had photos chopped and changed, freckles gone, eye bags smoothed out and pores non existent.
For so many years it messed with my head constantly trying to be a version of “Tanika” that I was told I had to be.
I recently worked with a wonderful photographer and make up artist who embraced all that was natural about me and only enhanced my look with natural make up and creative lighting. It was a collaborative process. One where I didn’t feel like a mannequin or a robot but a free spirit. Free to express my body and my emotions as I pleased. It was liberating and a huge internal shift for me. No longer will I be so heavily affected by the words and actions of those around me. I’m going to constantly strive to love myself more and embrace ALL of the internal and external flaws that make me beautiful.
