A year ago on an oppressively hot August afternoon, I walked out of an audition at Chelsea Studios... Things weren't really going my way.
It had become painfully clear how badly I needed work.
On my walk home I stopped into a few places that said they were hiring...but only one place really caught my attention and uplifted my spirits. This tiny shop in the West Village called Le Fanion. After a few minutes inside the store, my mood changed - I felt happy, sunny, a sense of home. I said to one of the owners, William, "I see you are hiring. I'd like to work here." The rest is history... I am full of gratitude. This store has been here in the Village for 30 years. The owners Claude-Noëlle & William are so kind, a little zany, beautiful and ridiculously intelligent. And of course it's in my favorite neighborhood in the world. There really aren't places like this anymore. I meet the most wonderful and interesting people and I'm surrounded by art.
Happy work-anniversary to me!
