I just died at the FREE insanity workout by @thecoachjimmy!!!
Fitness blog going LIVE today!!! Let me generate some hype by sharing my fitness story!! I started running in 7th grade because my sister, in 8th, was a runner. On day 2 of cross country practice, I was the fastest girl on the team. I was also a lazy bum. I did not want to do the work. So I didn't.
Well. After a great cross country season of being lazy, my sister called me out. "You get medals, but you're a walker." I stopped walking. For good. My family moved. .
January of 7th grade: Arlington. New city. BIG city. Fast girls. They do cross country in the spring. Weird right? They put me on the B team. I had to work my way UP on a team of 50 girls after being #1. I peaked #4. Emily Harvey was running a 5:22 mile in 7 grade (WILD). I was just trying to stay on the A team. Which I did. .
8th grade. Princeton. Tiny Town. Wikipedia: 90% white. 10% Hispanic. I am very uncomfortable. I'm *clearly* the fastest girl. I start running with the boys. Sometimes with the high school team.
9th grade. Only freshman on varsity.
10th grade. Only girl to make it out of district to regionals.
11th grade. My TEAM makes it to regionals!! First girl in school history to make it to State. Hello attention. I am a diva.
12th grade. Team captain. Never missed practice. NO INJURIES! Coachable. Division I offer. Several D2 offers. Life crisis behind the scenes. Lots of depression because I'm faster, and projected to run at state, yet fall short. Feeling slow (I wasn't). Feeling sad. .
I could not afford the running camps. Nobody was coming to my meets to cheer for me. I didn't have a Garmin, I had a $7 Walmart watch. I just knew that I had to get out of that town. The teen pregnancy rate made me really uncomfortable.
Every goal I set, I accomplished.
Even when on food stamps, even when I had to get food from the free & reduced lunch program from day 1 in America to the last day of senior year. Even when I was taking every AP class possible & doing year round forensics & working at Taco Bell because I was so broke. .
Nobody is stopping you from accomplishing your goals.
Excuses kill dreams.
