First hike of spring! #happyspring Out for more miles on the Finger Lakes/North Country Trail. It was a gorgeous spring day, though nature may still think it is winter. Low 30s, but sunny with little wind. Snow pack wasn't too bad, though occasionally getting knee deep when I had to venture off trail around the many blowdowns. That windstorm from a few weeks ago, really did some damage. .
Recently decided that want to undertake hiking the entire North Country Trail. While a proper end to end thruhike may not be in the picture, it should make for many amazing section hikes. I think I feel a particular fondness for this trail both because it is the first long trail I ever spent a large amount of time on, but also because it routes within 30 miles of where I grew up and when complete will travel through sections of the Adirondacks that contributed greatly into my love of long distance hiking and backpacking.
