The view towards the Mersey basin after the river widens out markedly alongside Liverpool Airport. The M56 runs across the picture, going left towards Chester and right towards Manchester. Liverpool is on the far side of the river going away towards the left . The waterway that comes across the front right is the River Weaver which runs into the Mersey from Cheshire. The chemical processing plants on the right are over near Runcorn. If you followed the navigational entrance to the Weaver around beyond the Chemical plants it would become the Manchester Ship Canal and pass under the Runcorn suspension bridge. Picture taken from the War Memorial at the top of Frodsham Hill.
