The little basil plant... the start of my homesteading aspirations! My husband and I bought this basil plant a few months ago simply because there was no fresh basil available at the grocery store, except for this one last little basil plant which was stuffed behind about a dozen parsley plants. It was floppy and half of it's leaves wilted and black. I didn't have much hope for it, I just thought we'd salvage enough for the recipe we had planned and then throw out the rest. But as soon as we set it in our kitchen the aroma of the basil FILLED the whole room! The freshness and life of this one plant made me regret having bought bagged and processed produce when there were locally grown options nearby! I immediately began looking online for indoor herb planters, hoping to expand my collection - however, due to the lack of space and inadequate sunlight in our apartment... I gave up. A few weeks went by though and we started house hunting, and suddenly I saw the opportunities for doing so much more than just having an indoor herb garden! The possibility of homesteading was a reality not too far off! So once again, I am making plans for expanding my indoor herb garden, and I couldn't be more excited!
