In anticipation of next week’s “holiday”...we drove 90 minutes (one way) to shop and learn at the inaugural Grand Junction “Indian Market”. Here are the girls learning some Lakota hoop dancing with #kevinlocke under the entertained eye of Roland McCook Sr., great-great grandson of Chipeta, the wife of Ute Chief Ouray.
Also, on the journey to the Market, I tried my best to explain to the 4-year-old the “Howard Zinn version” aka, the true story of the pilgrims and the indigenous people they killed. It’s a hard thing to translate into 4-year-old appropriateness, but it’s appropriate and vital to teach history correctly. #raisingdaughters #thanksgiving #lakotahoopdance #indigenouspeople
