This painting represents the sublime mystery inherent in the plant kingdom, which produces the food and oxygen that animals and humans depend on. .
The anacondas in the water warn us of the dangerous degradation of our rivers, lakes and forests and of destroying what is for our benefit. When the spirits walk there, they do not trample and crush the vegetation, they walk lightly and we should learn how to do the same. .
At the top of the painting are the huge eyes of the sachamama - the Mother of the forest, while on the left the bufeos have aligned themselves to look like a plant illustrating their reciprocity with aquatic plants.

How incredible that the earth is just filled with these naturally amazing treasures! This is raw labradorite cut into a wand and honed but not polished. It’s just naturally this flashy and colorful!! It’s absolutely dreamy!!!. The Eskimo Inuit and the Native American Innu of Labrador, Canada tell a legend about the true origin of Labradorite. It is said in the ancient times that the Aurora Borealis was entombed within the rocks on the shoreline of Labrador. An Inuit warrior found it and tried to release it from the rocks with a spear, he was able to free some, but he wasn’t able to free all of them. The play of lights or labradorescence we see now see in Labradorite gems is trapped Aurora Borealis. The legends are fun and the metaphysical believers present some interesting reads as well. .

PRI.org, June 20 2018; The Shiloh Residential Treatment Center in Manvel, Texas, has been paid $26 million since 2013 by the federal government to house migrant children. The company that operates the facility south of Houston has a history of problems, including deaths of children in its custody and allegations children were systematically drugged with psychotropic medications.
.
Propublica, July 27 2018; Using state public records laws, ProPublica has obtained police reports and call logs concerning more than 70 of the approximately 100 immigrant youth shelters run by the U.S. Health and Human Services department’s Office of Refugee Resettlement. While not a comprehensive assessment of the conditions at these shelters, the records challenge the Trump administration’s assertion that the shelters are safe havens for children. The reports document hundreds of allegations of sexual offenses, fights and missing children.
.
#NPR July 1 2014; Among the tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors who have come from Central America this year are children who speak little or no Spanish. Many are from Guatemala's indigenous communities, who speak more than 20 different Mayan languages
.
PRI.org, July 3 2018; The government says Border Patrol agents in the Southwest speak Spanish — but many migrants speak Indigenous languages

& @nativemixtec - “The #Chinantec, #Mixtec, & #Mazatec have this whistle speech we use to communicate and it's commonly used by the men. The men in my family did it all the time and I grew up learning this form of speech even though they said womxn shouldn't whislte. I posted a video not long ago about the whistle speech, but this is a much better quality and this shows us the whistling speech by the #Mazatecos.
- "Mazateco whistling is just one of 281 indigenous languages in Mexico. The whistles reproduce the inflections of the spoken language where a small difference in tone changes the meaning of the words. University teacher of Mazateco Eloy García is a linguist activist fighting to revive the language of his ancestors."

Day 5 of #Run4Salmon was all about knowing our rights when navigating through civil injustices. It was hosted by the Civil Liberties Defense Center - check out their website for a ton of helpful resources (www.cldc.org). We later gathered at the University of California in Davis where the Native American Student Center hosted us. We made Run4Salmon posters and learned more about the status of the salmon DNA samples that are being gathered in New Zealand and analyzed by the University of Cali geneticist, Mike Miller. A great day full of SO much good info!

This year we are thrilled to be honoring storytellers in our communities that reflect our often silenced Reproductive Justice experiences. We are excited to honor Odilia Romero!

Odilia Romero is from the Zapotec community of Zoogocho in the northern mountains of the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. In 1981, she migrated to Los Angeles, California where she settled in the Pico-Union district along with the many indigenous-migrant communities in the area.
Odilia was the first Zapotec woman to be the General Binational Coordinator of the Frente Indígena de Organizaciones Binacionales/Indigenous Front of Binational Organizations (FIOB). Mrs. Romero is also the cofounder of CIELO (Comunidades Indigenas en Liderazgo) an organization that works to build indigenous women leadership through reproductive rights, political advocacy and their empowerment. Mrs.Romero is also the founder of a language revitalization movement in South Central LA. Through her work Zapotec youth in South Central have reclaimed Zapotec from Northern Highlands Dixha Dxhon Dixha Ban. This work has given way to an annual indigenous literature conference that pushes against the idea that indigenous communities are void of their own literature.
