'Pinceauté', the word seduced me.
My friend Aurelie called out to her mother Odile, "you must show Ruth the fabric you found, it's a 'pinceauté, you will love it!".
An early 18th Century hand painted textile. It is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I wanted to dissolve into it, I begged & cajoled Odile to save me a morsel and this weekend I went to pick it up and bring it home.
Of course she had brought down lots of 'new' ancient textile treasures to tempt me including a huge 18th Century indigo print and this 'Maitre d'œuvre' stamped Indiennes fabric. It's so rare to find the original makers mark intact, so I wanted to share the beauty. My head swims when I catch a glimpse of them now in my atelier. Merci Odile!
Just for ref my pinceaute piece is in the background and the Indiennes is the more distinct floral motif 🙌
