I saw my first Indian dance performance in India, go figure. I was immediately enthralled but how much was being communicated with the most subtle of gestures. Their eyes, a finger. I love how you can use dance to tell stories. Tonight's storytelling session in Maggie Daley Park was dramatic, sweet, and enchanting. I noticed a younger girl copying the dance moves of the performers on stage. (Slay young queen 🤘) I love that this performance was free, making culture a shared, accessible experience to everyone.
The first time I saw Indian dancing was also the first time I recognized the power of sharing in someone's culture through the arts. It feels so intimate and special to witness someone's traditions and customs in that way. I had the most incredible time watching the Welch men's choir in Cardigan and the Turkish dancers in Istanbul. I try to find some of that whether through history, arts, or my personal favorite, food, on every trip I take. What's next?
