SHOULD THE CELTICS BEEF UP OR TRUST THE KIDS
Now the dust has settled after the horrific injury to Hayward we can now dissect the options that the Celtics have moving forward. The Celtics have to decide whether they will use the Disabled Player Allowance to sign a player to replace Hayward on their roster.
For the C’s to sign a player using this exception, Hayward will have to be deemed unfit to return to basketball before June the 5th2018. They can only sign a player on a one year deal or trade for a player with less than a year left on their contract. That player can only sign the non-taxer pay mid-level which will be up to 8.4 million for the year and unlike other exceptions, it is not allowed to be split amongst more than one player. The Celtics will have the advantage of waiting until March’s Buyout market to make a decision on players that have been bought out.

Danny Ainge has taken a slow and steady approach with this squad and despite the increased expectations, Ainge will continue his cautious. We see the Celtics waiting until March’s buyouts to sign a suitable replacement but only if the right player is available.
