In parallel to the architectural works being done in the gallery a few years back, I commissioned this knockout beauty as a special order to mark our inauguration in 2014. It was proudly displayed during our festive opening night and after some time asleep in the cavern it is now back. Because I miss it.
Woven in Tabriz, it is unusual in that it is a silk carpet with wool highlights rather than the other way around. This causes a dramatic #chiaroscuro interplay between light and shadow. The Grecian urn (howdy John Keats) erupts into a supernova of gol bolbol flowers 🌺 and nightingales 🐦 in a new twist to the popular genre.
