Location: Dunstable, MA | Salmon Brook | 670 Main St.
~ I was a little skeptical at first when I read that it was a brook, however I was pleasantly surprised how deep and wide this brook was! A meandering tributary of the Merrimack River that zigzags north towards New Hampshire—a very unique experience, especially with all of the beautiful foliage that has just arrived! During our trip we came across blue herons, ducks, turtles, and quite a few beaver dens. The brook was full of tall reeds lining the edges which made for a private excursion with undeveloped shores. We continued along the winding path until we bumped into a 4 foot high beaver dam! Definitely the largest beaver dam I've ever seen—it sure made for a beautiful experience relaxing on top of the dam listening to the water rushing by. I will definitely be coming back to this pristine kayaking location!
Craft: Fat Boy Double IPA | Big Elm Brewing | ABV 8.50% | American Double/Imperial IPA
~ What an outstanding, complex and balanced craft! At first taste you are hit with melon, strong yeasty notes, earthy herbal grass, and tropical fruits. A well-rounded body is met with almost a creamy thick base and a moderate amount of carbonation. Citrus zest, mango, and a light amount of pine help to smooth out the finish. Even though this beer is listed as a DIPA, it tastes more like a farmhouse ale—either way it's a juicy beer that is refreshing and full-bodied. The Berkshire breweries have definitely won me over this Summer, looking forward to more!
