Painting poppies in Uganda, part one.

Be happy for no reason. Once you learn how to not attach your happiness to things or people outside of you, you become free. #UgWomenInTech #KoiKoiEast #ILoveUganda #BringingAfricaTogetherThroughTrade

Oh color. 😍 From the beginning of this opportunity to come to Africa to paint, I knew that I wanted to get as many of my supplies as I could here as a small way to support the local economy. πŸ›¬ The day after we landed in Entebbe and drove six hours through traffic to get to the village of Kiguru, my sister and I went to Jinga (a town about thirty minutes from where we are) to pick out paint for the mural. 🏍🏍🏍 We rode bodas (motorcycle) to the paint store and got back to the village via a taxi with 20 other people squished into it. 🎨 When I opened these paint cans on Monday morning, I dipped my fingers into the colors. It finally started to sink in that this is REAL, that I get to paint in Uganda.
I never imagined that this would happen six months ago, but here I am. I guess anything can happen.

I'm grateful to the Belgium Ambassoder to Uganda and S. Sudan @hugo_verbist for the 2 day Belgium experience in Uganda. It's been a great experience and I'm now tempted to choose Belgium πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺ as my next holiday destination. #ILoveUganda #BringingAfricaTogetherThroughTrade

Do you like being alone? When I'm painting with white, I always think about the benefits of creating space in my life. I think about the benefits of resting. I think about how I can view my singlehood as a gift. I would rather not be alone, although sometimes I love being alone. βšͺ️βšͺ️βšͺ️ After 4 years of being on my own, I've come to like it. I know, that sounds confusing. I draw strength both from being around people and from being alone. Having too much of either one depletes me so having a balance is important. ⚫️⚫️⚫️
Today I'll keep moving, moving the lines forward, spreading happy colors, and celebrating the small moments of joy that I find. This is my #WinWednesday.

Why yes, there is an Amish hat in Africa.

Uganda. It was love at first sight. They warned me, but I wasn't ready to fall this hard.

One year ago today I left for Uganda πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬. I left scared and fear of the unknown. I came back loving the Country and the people of Uganda. I Knew that I wanted to go againπŸ’›. God taught me so much while I was there, but most important He taught me that in Him I can do anything. I didn't think that Uganda was for me, I didn't think I could leave my family for three weeks but He showed me that He doesn't call the equipped, He equips T H E C A L L E D. The whole family attended a seriously amazing concert tonight by the Watoto Children's choir. All were orphans and needy children brought into a loving community where they now know a forever Father. They've been traveling around the US for the past six months singing and raising awareness of the many needs in Kampala, Uganda. They've reached over 3000 single women in need and given them aid, jobs, education and a family! We brought home a CD and some new dance moves :) #letthenationsrejoice #iloveuganda #yourlightwillshine
