A stone fort and a historical landmark was built along the shores of Panguil bay now Port of Ozamiz, serves as the shelter for the ship of the Spanish fleet and has been used as a constabulary house ever since it was built in 1756 to function as a Spanish outpost in the land.
Cotta Fort was strategically situated in the mouth of Panguil bay to avoid sudden onslaught and attack of the Moro pirates from the barracks which was named as “never ending source of Muslim pirates”. It was one of the oldest structures in the city and was used to be known as Misamis Fort until the name Misamis was changed to Ozamiz, that gives a lot of confusion to locals regarding the use of “s” and the “z” in the last letter of Ozamiz.
So the next time you type, its OZAMIZ not Ozamis. °°°°°°°°°°°°°
