As a part of Citywide Mental Health Response Steering Committee, Sinai Health System is committed to helping train community members on how to recognize #mentalhealth symptoms and how to respond. The West Side Outreach Project, a pilot funded through @chipublichealth, has trained over 500 community members over the last eight months. Last month Chicago Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, announced decreasing breast health disparities for Chicago's African American women. In 2007, Sinai Community Institute found that black women in the communities we serve were 68% more likely to die if they had breast cancer than white women. Congratulations to Dr. Benjamin Levy on being selected as a participant in the Chicago Council on Global Affairs class of 2018 “Emerging Leaders.” Dr. Levy treats adult patients at Mount Sinai Hospital and SMG's Touhy clinic, where he cares for many of Chicago's refugees. The Emerging Leaders class will participate in briefings with Council experts to explore global security, global cities, economic inequality, immigration, food insecurity and other topical global issues defining U.S. engagement abroad.
