I went to Florence last weekend and I have since been nothing less than smitten. It is a very different city from Rome. For one, it is a very medieval town, shaped by the vibrant personalities of the artists and bankers that once called this place home. Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Giotto, Donatello, Botticelli, Brunelleschi, Dante Alighieri, and of course, the infamous Medici family. Even more so than Rome, Florence is a city that was forged by the creative ambitions of individuals and visionaries, and this can be immediately felt by anybody that walks through the museums or appreciates it's art and architecture. While visiting Firenze I visited first the Gallery dell'academia and The David, then the Uffizi Museum, and then sprinted through some of the architecture such as the ponte vecchio and the cathedral in the pouring rain. It was a hectic and rainy day, but made all the more memorable because of it.
