Scientific name Buteo buteo is the most common predator bird in Central Europe, highly variable color shades. On the upper side is dark brown, and on the underside there are grainy (brownish-white) shades. The tail is usually a dense streak. In the year it always looks compact, the wings are wide, the tail is relatively short, wide and rounded, often more or less tattered. Fly slowly and often sail on the upgreen; when hunted, it starts very fast, often vertically, against the prey. When sailing, slides with horizontally extended wings, slightly raised above the horizontal, and the head drawn between the shoulders. It grows from 51 to 56 cm and has a span of between 117 and 137 cm. It advertises with a typical tuning sound, which is similar to catfish.
