Impromptu food challenge last night after intraset convos of peace with my boy @theycallhimx aka the heart and soul of Derrimut Airport West.
Whilst discussing the wonder that is food, @theycallhimx alerted me to a pizza challenge I had not previously conquered. My interest was piqued and having only done two venue challenges this year (0 since march) I thought it was time for a Ressling.
With burgers and speed challenges being my forte I liked the idea of trying something different. This challenge is also larger than most of my previous challenges and with capacity being my weakness (by competitive eating standards, and due to my technique) I thought it'd be good to test myself out.
The @shawcrosspizza 22 inch Pizza challenge.
1/2 Aloha Motherf*cker
1/2 Fat Tony
The pizza is equivalent to 4 large pizzas.
The long standing record was 24:12 which was held by a very well-known foodgrammer and eater. In retrospect I think this is a good time as this challenge is challenging. The fastest monthly time was about 35 min.
The bloke serving laughed when I said I wanted to do the challenge, and when I asked him if he thought I had a chance, said I was no chance whilst laughing at me.
By the 3 minute mark more than half the Pizza was gone and like usual staff and onlookers had assumed their state of shock and disbelief.
I slowed quite a bit like I always do and at the 8 minute mark had about 20% left. The dough and crusts had really hit me by this stage and the next slice or so took me about 5 minutes. With the end in sight I got a second wind and powered through to get it done.
Official time: 14:56
= record broken by 9 minutes 16 seconds
I reckon proper eating time was more like 14 min though as they started the timer on me before I was fully ready and set up and I also had to help my mum with my camera and phone as she was trying to film me. Either way I was stoked to jag another record.
It isn't a thin base pizza and the crusts are big and hard. I've been weighing food for years my weight estimations are usually pretty good but to be conservative I'll say each slice weighed 250-350g. 8 slices = 2-2.8kg. If anyone knows the weight please correct me.
