I finally made some time to travel to Big Bend National Park in west Texas with Mike Rice this past weekend. Seeing the core of the Milky Way in such brightness to the background stars was mesmerizing to say the least. Storms and clouds didn't want to play fair and since I only had a limited number of days/nights there, we had to make the best of what we had to work with. This image was taken in frustration. We had a spot already picked out, but the clouds and lightning rolled through as the core climbed up over the Chisos Mountains. I snapped many shots anyway using the intervalometer just in case the clouds broke, but all I have now is time lapse images of clouds and mountains. We moved further south in the park and the clouds did part. As you can see, the lightning was still invasive, but look at that lack of light pollution FINALLY!!! There are MANY more night shots to come!! EXIF:
