I keep reintroducing foods I have never liked into my diet in an effort to broaden my taste buds' horizons and get a greater variety of nutrients in my diet. Up until adulthood, I wouldn't touch sweet potatoes with a ten foot pole. Not even marshmallows helped. It wasn't until I worked at Citizens Bank that I discovered these orange atrocities were tasty - so long as they were mashed into a butter and sugar laden pulp, and topped with a brown sugar and pecan streusel. I got the recipe, and I eat them once a year - when I make them for Thanksgiving. So far as family goes, I don't think I'm ever allowed to NOT make them!
I have tried them over and over baked, in the forms of fries and tots, salted, lightly sweetened, with cinnamon. The gag reflex began to subside, and I actually have grown to like the taste of them. Now, if I ever get a particularly stringy one that reminds me of eating rope or hair, I may regress. But tonight, I DID NOT GAG. 🍠 🚫😝
