Another super rad shot of #bluesteel and #teamzappa in #iditarod2018 I pulled off the official page, was on our last run as we are headed into #nome ! #lastgreatrace I have never felt a deeper connection with my team than the one i felt at this moment ❤️ #iditarodtrail

After 5 days of pushing our bikes through snow storms, we were treated to a beautiful sunrise and enjoyed the company of Peter Ripmaster, the eventual winner of the 1000 mile foot race. #iti2018

This year I had the amazing opportunity to go on the Iditarod trail and experience rural Alaska. Congrats Joar on winning this years race! 🐾🐺

#TBT to pretty much excalty this time last week. As a FYI, PTTD (posttraumatic trail disorder) is a thing.

While the ice and snow on the rivers are still solid we have to get all of our heavy and bulky supplies in, across the Iditarod trail to EagleSong. This is a 3-4 hour trip..one way...and rough trails cause a lot of wear and tear on the sleds...and snowmachineer. This is our son, Cody, welding one of the sleds back together after a run. Notice his chic Alaskan bunny boots and carharts!

A little wind (24 mph) plus snow for an afternoon ski. Sometimes the Velcro on Fozzie’s jacket collar pops loose and it looks like he’s trying to be some risqué runway model. “Oh, did I loose a strap? [Ears flapping in the wind.]” Yes, Fozzie, you look ridiculous. Put your clothes back on.

There are times on the Iditarod Trail when it feels as though the moment will never end, but there are as many times when you wish it never will. #iti2018

Thanks so much to everyone who came out last night to hear tales from the historic @iditarod_trail_invitational! Especially thanks to @john_johnny_d_despres for helping wrangle the crew and for running the projector so we could see photos from Alaska. We've got an amazing community of people behind us. 🖤 @salsacycles @45nrth @niteriderlights @3toesthreadworks @beckergear #adventurebybike #iditarodtrail #grbcfulton #ridegrbc #puremichigan #thegrshop #community

I’ve told you about how I love the @iditarodsleddograce, right? No? Well, there isn’t enough character space in this little box to REALLY explain myself, but I’m going to probably use most of it. It all began in the fourth grade. We were studying the Iditarod and were preparing for our own race in gym class. Each team was comprised of students as dogs or the musher. Perhaps it was my shining leadership abilities, or how I had a nurturing soul, or maybe even because I was so obviously awful at running - by the grace of God I was assigned to be the musher. I sat in a red wagon as my team flew me around the campus of our school. We took breaks at checkpoints as I fed my dogs their goldfish, and would you believe - WE WON THE THING! So in a sense, I am an Iditarod champion. The great Center School Iditarod of 1998. Since then I’ve been fascinated with the sport, and occasionally rattle off all sorts of nonsense about it. I had the change to get lunch with Martin Buser, four-time champ. Remember when Leslie Knope met Joe Biden? Same deal. I was hysterical. Not only am I moved by the relationship of the musher to the precious dogs who ADORE the sport, but I am fascinated by the strategy and gameplay involved. I’m inspired in a way that ties together competition and compassion. Perhaps you have something you love that’s as weird as this? I know I’m not alone.

Today, the first finisher crossed the line in Nome after 9 days of traversing the Alaskan wild with his team of canine compadres. One day I’ll pack Millie and Sydney up and we’ll go at it ourselves. But I’m going to need a heavier coat 😊

This past Saturday kicked off the 2018 Iditarod Trail Dog Sled Race in Anchorage, Alaska!

The Iditarod began in 1973 as a way to commemorate the part that sled dogs played in the settlement of Alaska. It is sometimes called the "Last Great Race" and it one of Alaska's most well-known sporting events.

Although the ceremonial start is in Anchorage, the race actually is the reconstruction of an old freight route from Willow to Nome that covers a distance of over 1,150 miles. Mushers and a team of sixteen dogs cover the distance in 8-15 days or more, often racing through blizzards and sub-zero temperatures.

These are just a few of many photographs from the 1974 Iditarod in our series of Alaska Task Force Photographs. 🐶

❄️ Brrr! What a freezing week we had in London last week. It feels good to defrost and be able to get back out cycling on the roads. One amazing Beeliner, Bartosz, was still out cycling last week - in his shorts and t-shirt 💪! But -7C is nothing when you’ve cycled 350 miles across Alaska in winter. We caught up with him to find out more. Some lunch break reading for you! Link in bio
