A common mistake I see clients make with lateral walks is that their trail leg/glute just ride along while the lead does all the work. The "X" allows you to apply more resistance from the outside, forcing you to stabilize both hips. It's also a great extrinsic cue to brace the core from top to bottom. ▪️▪️▪️
🔑 keys: • Hinge at the hip, pushing your glutes back and keeping your abs tight. Keep a slight bend in the knee. • Pick up BOTH feet, don't drag the trail one along. You should be waddling, not electric-sliding 🙃😜.
• Keep your toes point forward!!! If they point out, you're using your quads/ TFL and not the glutes. It's harder. Suck it up. 💁🏼
• 3 sets, 20 steps each direction. ▪️▪️▪️

The amount of sleep we need each day varies from person to person. Humans are pretty dang good at surviving on little sleep. However, “surviving” does not equate to “thriving.” This is especially true when you have goals more ambitious than just making it through the next 24 hours. Sleep hygiene is one of the keys to overall well-being, physique development, and progress in the gym:

A solid night’s sleep gives your body a chance to replenish and recover. Growth hormone is released and allows for cell regeneration. The hormones responsible for appetite regulation depend on sleep quality. Blood sugar levels are regulated with adequate sleep. Your liver detoxifies and sets up energy stores for the next day. Your brain solidifies what it learned the day prior, and prepares itself for tomorrow's challenges.

There is a reason we can survive longer without food than we can without sleep. Sleep is important. Just like hydration, it’s permissive to any and every goal we set in the gym, the classroom, the field, the office... Dial in your sleep, and you set up for success. ▪️
I feel a MAD difference when I am consistent with my sleep versus inconsistent. Yes, life gets in the way, and I definitely have a different life than someone with a newborn baby or a night shift job. But there are so many ways to hack YOUR life to get better rest. Take naps. Turn off your phone. Learn to meditate, or at the very least to relax your overactive, overly stimulated and stressed mind before bed. Make sleep a priority, I promise you will feel and see a difference.
