A different kind of #throwbackthursdayyy but there is I reason I swear... Ever since I was little, there were questions about me.
My pre-primary teacher thought I was being abused at home.. yes that's right!
Simply because she couldn't understand WHY a child that didn't look "special needs" acted like one.
My secondary school kicked me out of the SENO (special needs department) because they felt "I was just a bit slow" again yes I was actually told that by a teacher at the age of 11. I was picked on and bullied for being different.
My school, teachers and family refused to acknowledge my learning difficulties. My family didn't want to hold me back or label me, my school let me struggle and my friends didn't understand me.
I fort, I bloody fort tooth and nail because I never ever wanted to give up on myself. I passed my exams, I past college, I got myself a career and found my dream.
Now Imagine spending your whole life fighting for the right to be understood and fighting for you statement.. then having that statement devalued because you fucking worked so hard to get to where you are, even by the people that should understand you the most try to take it away from you.
Don't you DARE lessen me for what I have been able to achieve. How dare you call me "a form of autism" or "high functioning" for not giving up, for not giving in! For not becoming another lost talent.
My transformation is the beautiful, strong and powerful AUTISTIC, DYSLEXIC, DYSPRAXIC, OCD creature you see before you. I wouldn't change it for the world because now I spend my days teaching children like me that nothing and no one can hold them back.
