This one totally sums up what I wanted the message to be when I won The Body competition, not a one size fits all campaign to be 'the best'. I like to think I won because people liked that MY body reflected MY story, the rules I make (and bend), the way I treat my body, not just emotionless curves and muscles and 6-packs that aren't always there! 'When my son was born, I immediately knew something was wrong but the doctors couldn't work out what it was. Colt had several misdiagnoses, including autism, and it wasn't until he was four that doctors realised he had the incredibly rare Fragile X Syndrome. He had to have multiple operations and it was a really worrying time, especially as I'd been a single mother since he was eight months old.⠀
I hadn't been in great shape; I would eat huge portions and watch TV instead of going to the gym, but with Colt's diagnosis, I realised that I had to get healthy for his sake.'⠀

TIRED VS SICK VS LOW 🤔😥😣
What's the difference? How do you know? Which is a symptom of the other and which is it's own thing entirely? Should it be:
ENERGY + HEALTH + MOOD?
I'm still learning to understand & listen to my body & often get confused between these 3, or let one creep in because I'm not sorting out the right thing. Always fighting the feeling that if I miss training I've put myself behind. Not the case! .
Training is an incredible remedy for so many things, but equally it can make things worse! I'm the first, stubborn old goat to train when I'm sick or tired (because it's made me feel low) and I know training gives me a high. But then I've run myself down further and, understandly, I get sicker! .
It's so essential to learn your own body, and listen when it speaks.This morning I was cycling & my body hesitatedto pull out onto our street & start my journey. I had woken up tired, been sick over the weekend, but couldn't pinpoint which was which at 7am. Enter the morning grump.

I'm the first to post #nevermissamonday or #mondaymotivation, but actually it's more important never to miss what your body is saying. My body is saying it's hattered and if I don't listen it'll shout louder and make me sick. I'm going to give it a rest & my mood will no doubt rise with my energy levels. 😍😍It's been about 4-months since the @womenshealthuk magazine & I'm starting to honestly reflect on what I felt! .
.
I yelled "f**k off!" in disbelief to the lovely editor @miss_mulloy when she called to say i'd won & then a rush of pressure in December (xmas fuuun) to be a worthy winner for the shoot 2-weeks later. If I'm honest, they were the worst 2-weeks training I have ever done. .
.
Training in the mindset you'll let others down by not being perfect is the worst way to let yourself train. It completely threw my training & my day-to-day life somewhere that wasn't me. I didn't enjoy and indulge in the events and xmas feasts I usually would, I trained harder than ever because I thought what I was doing before wasn't good enough. Ironically, I was a bit of a misery those 2-weeks, rather than being on a high from winning for just being myself. The biggest irony was 2-weeks later I couldn't see the change myself.

The magazine came out & the 'Flat belly fast' placed next to my face instantly irritated me, this had been years of training day-in, day-out, a lifestyle that preceded Instagram + selfies + hashtags. I didn't want people associating my (cheesy) grin & body with shortcuts to success or 'gym wear that helps you slim'

The competition was incredible & it made me appreciate how you can spread ripples of positive attitudes towards fitness & body image, but it also made me realise how different a single image message is from reality and how much training for the wrong reasons is more detrimental for your spirit and body than not training at all! I have to remind myself even if luck won me the title of 'The Body', hardwork got me the ACTUAL body & spirit I carry around beyond the competition!

Hammering my way home. Too easy to avoid working the upper body if it's already 'skinny', instead working legs, bums and tums (don't even get me started on that acronym) in the hunt for eternal slimness. As women, we can neglect our biggest powerhouse-payback potentials; chest, back and legs - for fear we'll wake up bulky and shredded. Just to say, noone ever woke up accidentally shredded. The hard work you put into yourself always comes through. Let's start loving and nurturing these stunning muscle groups, they sort us out and grant us BIG feasts with no repercussions. We can fall prey to chasing inner thigh gaps, flat tums and hotdog legs with fear that our muscles will reflect a lack of softness and femininity. When you start lifting properly EVERYTHING changes: your confidence, mental strength, feeling of control over your own success, your shape, your attitude + just how tall you can carry yourself. So much respect for ladies lifting day in, day out - even in the wake of any doubt we let slip in! Femininity comes from knowing yourself and being the woman you want to be on your own path, not someone else's version of events.
