On the last day of #APAHM, I share with you the Memorial Tribute Statue of the Sakadas, the Filipino Plantation Workers who sailed to Hawaii.
In 1946, the last wave of Filipinos departed from this very port on to the SS Maunawili bound for the Hawaiian Islands, making the ultimate sacrifice leaving life and family behind. For many Filipinos in Hawaii today, we are the descendants of the Sakada legacy. We must hold on to the same values, spirit, tenacity, endurance and hard work ethic in all that we do. Whereas, we would not be here if it weren't for them. 🇵🇭🍍👩🏾🌾🌾 #iamfilipino #iamFilAm #sonofimmigrants
