Today I had the opportunity go speak to students from the Merle Grove High School about advocating for Persons with Disabilities. Through the Ministry of Education, Youth & Information, we ran a simulation exercise wherein tags were placed around our necks which we didn't know what was written on them. Each person could choose by looking at the tag a person to be grouped with. I was marked 'retard' and many persons were hesitant to join my group, as small as it may seem, this highlights the larger problem at hand. We have to be more inclusive of persons with disabilities, they too are able to contribute to our nation's prosperity and development. Give them a fair chance. They are able!
