The #HungarianRevolution of '56 was a nationwide revolt against the government of the Hungarian People's Republic and its Soviet-imposed policies, lasting from 23 October until 10 November 1956.
The uprising was suppressed after 2 weeks by a large invasion of Soviet forces. Many people were killed, and 200,000 people fled Hungary as refugees.
Soviet occupation in Hungary did not end until 1989, along with the fall of the Berlin Wall
