Fast finish long runs for the team today - final big pieces for our NYC + Indy + Marine Corps crews are in place. Excited to see everyone race hard these next two weeks!

No long run in a couple of weeks, so it was time to face reality😒 My coach has been getting on my “case” about getting away with murder avoiding this so it was time to face my demons today😈

While not “perfect,” I will take this as a “stepping stone” to bigger and better things with these runs in future when I begin marathon training. My coach wanted a “push,” but instead what he calls it...I gave him “sushi” (raw & bland). I told him, if I am sushi then I am a “Spicy Sushi” 🍣😂

12 miles — 10 easy with 4k push. The plan was to take some @humagel before my run, and then again around mile 8 before my push. It helped but it just was not enough for the pace I had planned. Goal was 6:40-6:50 for last 4k. Instead all I had in me for last couple of miles was 7:17, then 6:59. Again it’s not perfect, but it’s step in right direction.

Now it’s time to relax, and hit up some delicious food at the Food & Wine Festival 🥘 🍷 at Epcot with my cousin @floridamommydiaries ❤️

Do you do pushes at the end of long runs? Thoughts?! I am hoping once weather cools down, it will come easier 🙏🏼

Race morning: getting ready! #running #florida #nuunlife #humagel

Joshua Tree Day. Hiking, laughing, picnicking. All day!!

Today was comedy. The 5k race I’m planning is this Sunday and so when I set out for this 15 miler my brain went on overload. I was solo and just kept going over details. By mile 2 my attempt at a warm up was all but laughable. Miles 3-12 i just wanted to keep good form. I was well under the pace recommended and at mile 14 I stopped and walked. I didn’t feel like my body needed to walk, but my mind was reeling. I thought I’d settle in. That never happened and maybe that was ok. I finished feeling ready to take in this weekend!!! Side note: this @squirrels_nut_butter is amazing!!! Best natural anti-chaffing. #runlessrunfaster #longrun #road2cim #running #runningmama #hokaoneone #humagel #marathontraining #marathonmom

This the most realistic and accurate description of an MS patient’s daily life I’ve ever read. Amazing brother, keep moving forward! #Repost @hammerthewall with @get_repost

October 2018 marks 9 years since my diagnosis of MS. It’s hard to comprehend.
I have experienced the worst moments of my life since that day. Some heartbreaking. Some humiliating. Some I did not think I would make it through.
The toll of an unpredictable, unseen degenerative disease is high. It is an unmatched mental challenge. Nothing is more difficult.
Imagine going to sleep every night not knowing if when you wake up you’ll be able to walk. Use your arms. Speak with clarity. Control your bodily functions. Think clearly. Withstand the pain.
Imagine every morning you wake up you spend the first five minutes going through a mental checklist of tests to see what still works. What feels different. What hurts and how much. And wondering why, knowing full well there is no answer. Knowing there never will be.
You let it break you. Eat you up. Spit you out. Over and over. Until that single moment of lucidity, that bright moment of clarity in the dark place where your thoughts have learned to live, where you make the decision that determines your future - or lack thereof. It is either the first or last choice that matters. You choose. You. Choose.
Unless you’ve had that single, defining moment you won’t get it. You won’t understand how it changes you. Perspective, priorities, plans - they take on new meaning. The smallest of moments, the tiniest of acts can carry so much more than before. You attack life with a passion most can’t grasp. It’s transformation. A realization.
I chose. And I sure as hell ain’t looking back. 9 years? Here’s to the next nine. Bring it. #hammerthewall #run #runner #running #ms #trailrunning #trailrunner #trailrun #marathoner #ultramarathoner #hokaoneone #howihammer #orangemud #injinji #mswarrior #multiplesclerosis #cleansportco #heartrunners #ThisIsMS #humagel #shutuplegs #onemoremile #lemtrada #wahooligan

Every small victory is a stepping stone to something greater. I may not have crossed the line first, but I had my best finish in a Super, and that’s progress!!!

New @entrixsport running singlet is super comfy. Slightly disappointed that it didn’t include new legs! #entrixsport #itsyourtime #humagel #runwith #gkendurance #ultramanhawaii #insearchofnewlegs

Today I was challenged with 2 broken ignition keys - but grateful I was parked in a shopping center with food and coffee, vs a desolate park with no cell phone reception or people in sight. For a while it seemed as though I’d be stuck in LA for a week or so, as no mobile locksmiths worked on bikes and Triumph told me my only option was to order new keys and wait for them to arrive. As I sat in Starbucks, calling over 20 locksmiths, I was really amazed by the kindness and eagerness of strangers to help me. From the simple gesture of a cup of tea, to offers to drive me 1.5hrs to a dealership, to letting me know I could camp in their back yard for a week and have my bike towed to their driveway. It was nice to see humans being kind!
6 hours later- a magician of a locksmith was able to use the broken key pieces, cut a new key, and attach it to the old fob. 🎉. I couldn’t thank him enough!!
Back on the road I still had time to ride the infamous Angeles Crest Highway, run on the PCT to the summit of Mt Baden-Powell and ride to Joshua Tree National Park before the sun went down.
Another great day!!

#tbt to @stringbeanincident’s fantastic year of racing this year! Connor has been on the team for 10 months and in those 10 months he has PRed at 5 different distances: 5k, Half Marathon, Marathon, 50k, and 50M. Connor took a bit of a leap in doing some shorter and faster road racing to augment his marathoning and ultra racing and we saw a lot of his potential unlocked at the longer distances as a result. He has been the epitome of well-rounded and patient training and racing. Connor is recharging his batteries now and we can’t wait to see what 2019 brings for him!
——
Connor’s 2018 Racing Results:
Frozen Gnome 50k - 4:28 (40 min PR!)
St. Patty’s Day 5k - 17:01 (PR!)
Shamrock Shuffle 8k - 28:04 (crushed his debut 8k)
Illinois HM - 1:17:00 (15 min PR!)
Yankee Springs Trail Marathon - 3:25:40 (win!)
Minnesota Voyageur 50M - 6:56:56 (2nd place, 11th fastest in race history, and 53 min PR!)
Chicago Marathon - 2:48:38 (11 min PR!)

Anyone want to guess how long I’m planning on running?

7️⃣ miles tonight. I expected a challenging run and got it. Today was a struggle against fatigue, and tonight’s run will guarantee a good night’s sleep!
