Feeling berry nutritious... #Repost @thecookingblueprint (@get_repost)
Where can you find huge amounts of antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins C & K? In a big bowl of berries, that's where! Loaded with phytonutrients, berries, particularly blueberries, can help lower risk of certain cancers, improve brain function, and fight oxidative stress (the process that causes the physical effects of aging). Berries are also known to improve cardiovascular health and are low on the glycemic index, so they won't drastically affect your blood sugar levels when looking for a sweet snack.
But, buyer beware! Berries, especially strawberries, are best consumed organically grown. Studies have shown that the antioxidant levels in non-organic berries are actually lower, not to mention that berries tend to have higher percentages of pesticide residue left on their skin.
