Would you sleep under a 25-pound bed covering? Would you like to? Because now you can. Called weighted blankets, these ingenious items use fillers like plastic pellets, beads, and dried rice to make the fabric heavier, creating a clinging affect that distributes pressure equally over one’s body. In addition to helping people with autism and other disorders, research suggests they can relieve those plagued by anxiety and stress. They can also lead to a more restful night’s sleep and alleviate symptoms of insomnia. The idea is that the deep pressure and “touch” of the heavier blankets can help stimulate the release of neurotransmitters, like serotonin and dopamine, that in turn make people feel more relaxed.
While this isn’t a new invention—occupational therapists have been using weighted blankets for years—it does seem to be catching on outside of therapy. In 2017, a Kickstarter campaign for a new, weighted blanket called Gravity was so successful it raised more than 77 times its goal in just eight days. (By the campaign’s end, Gravity garnered almost $5 million from more than 20,000 backers.) Amazon sells hundreds of different styles of weighted blankets and there are also numerous DIY tutorials dedicated to making the clever bedding oneself.
In order to find the right weighted blanket for your body type, various sources recommend choosing one that weighs around 10% of your body weight. Weighted blankets are also best used with adults and older children only. Since 2008, they have led to the deaths of at least two kids—a 7-month-old and a 9-year-old. •

Sleeping well directly affects your mental and physical health and the quality of your waking life. Fall short and it can take a serious toll on your daytime energy, productivity, emotional balance, and even your weight. Yet many of us regularly toss and turn at night, struggling to get the sleep we need.

Keep in sync with your body's natural sleep-wake cycle

Getting in sync with your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle, or circadian rhythm, is one of the most important strategies for sleeping better.
Try to go to sleep and get up at the same time every day. I know this can be hard to do but if we try our best to do it 60 to 80% of the time it helps set your body’s internal clock and optimize the quality of your sleep. Choose a bed time when you normally feel tired, so that you don’t toss and turn. If you’re getting enough sleep, you should wake up naturally without an alarm. If you need an alarm clock, you may need an earlier bedtime. Control your exposure to light

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone controlled by light exposure that helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle. Your brain secretes more melatonin when it’s dark—making you sleepy—and less when it’s light—making you more alert.

Avoid bright screens within 1-2 hours of your bedtime. The blue light emitted by your phone, tablet, computer, or TV is especially disruptive. You can minimize the impact by using devices with smaller screens, turning the brightness down, or using light-altering software such as
Night Mode! Its a great app for your eyes protection and easy sleep. This is tge one i use and have found it helps.

When it’s time to sleep, make sure the room is dark. Use heavy curtains or shades to block light from windows, or try a sleep mask. Sleep mask and ear plugs have most certainly helped me.

Tak mám za sebou další noc, kdy jsem prostě nemohla usnout. Takovou tu noc, kterou nepřejete ani tomu největšímu nepříteli. Kdy ležíte v posteli, nachystaní na to FALL ASLEEP a ono nic 🤷🏼‍♀️ Nejdřív pokorně čekáte, až teda konečně usnete. Když se ani po hodině nic neděje, jdou na řadu nějaký velmi hodnotný videa na youtube, knížka,... A pak začnete přemýšlet ⏰🔝Já se v mých myšlenkových pochodech většinou dostavám od toho, co budu zítra vařit až k tomu, proč vlastně vymřeli dinosauři⁉️Každopádně je ještě jedna varianta, která je podle mě horší než přemýšlet nad dinosaurama...A to když jste v té posteli s vaší drahou polovičkou. Která s FALLING ASLEEP nemá sebemenší problém a začne chrápat do minuty na to, co si řeknete dobrou noc. To je super. Tak super, že pak mezi třetí a čtvrtou ráno přemýšlíte, jestli to okno z ložnice je dost vysoko na to to všechno ukončit ☠️💔 I když se mi tohle už chvilku nestalo a spíš teď řeším ty dinosaury, usínání je pro mě prostě vždycky problém... A jak to máte vy? Nějake rady, HOW TO FALL ASLEEP? 🌛✨
