Today’s Evensong features the Herbert Howells “Collegium Regale” canticles. Howells wrote these magnificent choral pieces during World War II when he was standing in for an organist who was on active service in the RAF intelligence. While at Cambridge, he was persuaded to write his only full setting of the Morning and Evening Canticles for King’s College, Cambridge (‘Collegium Regale’, pictured here) in 1944 and, with this, began the outpouring of anthems and service music that effectively established his reputation as a composer of church music.
We hope you can join us for Evensong at Duke Chapel this week! Sunday at 4 pm.
