This week, meet another one of our amazing instructors. The Houston Press called Austin Smith one of “Houston’s most feverishly creative young musicians”––serious praise in a city so stacked with talent. At Bojangles, we can vouch for the compliment’s accuracy. Austin’s bottomless well of ideas is thanks in large part to his versatility: He is a bonafide utility player, capable of teaching guitar, ukulele, bass, drums, piano, and voice. The lifelong musician started on piano when he was five years old, studying classical and pop music via the Suzuki program under the instruction of professor Paul Boyd. At nine years old, Austin dove into percussion––including the drum set––as well as bass, guitar, synthesizer, and drum machines. A veteran of several college bands, Austin founded acclaimed pop trio Jerk in 2016, and currently produces other artists and works in various commercial licensing and publishing opportunities.
