As the holiday season is upon us I wanted to review one of my favorite seasonal beers. Samuel Smith’s Winter Welcome Ale brings back memories of sitting around a cozy fire at the cabin, full of joy with the family. Winter Welcome is brewed at Yorkshire’s oldest brewery in Tadcaster, England where it is taken out by Shire horses to be distributed by the fine Merchant Du Vin in Seattle. This readily available brew is as economical as it is flavorful. I find that it warms my soul as well as my taste buds and always leaves me satisfied. I highly recommend picking some up at your local Trader Joes, World Market, Whole Foods, or House of Spirits in Montrose, CO as well as many local Liquor Stores. The taste is slightly hoppy with a very adequate bitterness. As this beer engulfs your palette you get more malts, and light spices. It has a good balance of carbonation and taste to provide a strong body. The overall taste can be appreciated by all styles of beer drinkers. “Blessing of your heart, you brew good ale” -W. Shakespeare.
