Released on this day in 1976: Eagles, Hotel California.
Easily the body of work the band is best known for, it's also their best selling album to date - and one of the best selling records of all time.
I know the title gives it away, but there's a distinct Californian sound to the record that I love, and one that's also on other albums released at around the same time - namely Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue, and Fleetwood Mac's Rumours.
New Kid In Town and Life In The Fast Lane are quintessential Eagles tracks, but let's face it... Hotel California is the band's signature song, and is impossible to ignore when thinking about this album. Musically and structurally, I think this is the Eagles' greatest accomplishment, with the iconic guitar solo being one of the most famous and recognised of all time.
Hotel California is a great summertime album, and perfect to play now that things are beginning to heat up in Sydney ☀️ On a side note, this is my Dad's original pressing from 1976 which he gave me years ago. It was one of the very first records I owned, and spearheaded my current obsession. A special album indeed... 😊
