“Hi Laura! I just wanted to say THANK YOU for showing your followers that it’s okay to eat a whole foods based diet that INCLUDES CARBS! 3 years ago, I fell into a trap of eating a hardcore, high fat/low carb paleo diet as a way to lose weight, balance my hormones, and reduce some autoimmune related inflammation. Instead, I actually ended up gaining about 15 pounds. I felt moody and irritable all the time, and my workouts really started to suffer because I was so fatigued. This macronutrient ratio was obviously not working for my body, but because so many major functional medicine healthcare professionals and influencers insisted that a high fat/low carb was the key to optimal health, I continued down this path. It wasn’t until I started noticing the higher carb/lower fat meals in your Instagram posts that I realized maybe my body needed more carbs. And also, maybe my body didn’t need as much healthy fat as I had been lead to believe. Over the past 3 months, I’ve been including more carbs and lowering my fat intake a bit, and as a result, I’ve lost 5lbs (without cutting calories or depriving myself!) Lets chat about progesterone & heart health. You’re probably familiar with progesterone, or pro-gestation, the hormone that increases after ovulation and helps you carry a baby. Progesterone receptors don’t just exist in the uterus, but there are receptors in the brain, coronary arteries (arteries on the heart itself), bones, GI tract…everywhere. Your entire body responds to this hormone, not just your lady parts. —
When your heart’s blood vessels get a little taste of this hormone, they relax - kind of like drinking a glass of wine before bed. So yes, everyone tells you to chill the f out and relax but we are talking about an action called coronary artery vasodilation (go ahead and Google that one). Imagine if you were drinking that wine from a straw, if you had a straw with a wider circle, it would be effortless to drain that glass. Say you’re drinking it from one of those coffee stir straws, it would literally take so much work to get a proper amount of wine through that straw and into your deserving mouth. —
So what does progesterone do (did you google coronary artery vasodilation yet?) ❔ It allows the diameter of your blood vessels to increase and enough blood to get to your heart tissue WITHOUT extra effort from your heart. Sounds really important, right? Right. By relaxing the smooth muscle it can relieve chest pain and reduce blood pressure amongst other things.

Natural solutions to acne seem simple: a mask, some sort of natural toner, an herbal supplement, some tea, but they won't work if they're not what your body needs. Stress is the WORST thing for your health, above processed food, pollution, or sugar. It is also the hardest to get a handle on. 🤦🏻‍♀️One way that stress shows up in your body is to alter your BREATHING PATTERNS. In a stressed (sympathetic) state, you breath fast and shallow. In a relaxed (parasympathetic) state, you can breath deep and slow. This is both causal and caused BY stress. MEANING: YOU CAN INDUCE A RELAXED STATE BY PURPOSELY TAKING SLOW DEEP BREATHS. 💁🏻

Regularly practicing 4-4-8 breathing stimulates your vagus nerve, sends the signal to your brain to turn on your parasympathetic nervous system, and turns off your stress hormone production. It is a small act that has BIG effects on the body. Here's how to do it: sit or lay on your back, breathe in through the belly (not chest) for a 4 count, breath out slowly for a 4 count, then hold for an 8 count. Repeat 5-10 times.

Make sure you are breathing through your belly, not rushing it, and allowing your mind to focus on your breath and not the racing thoughts..... I use this all the time, from anxiety attacks to 5 o clock traffic.

Christmas colors on my plate today while my hubby and I tackle wrapping🎄✨. I’ve been eyeing up the roasted tomatoes every time @b.b.wellness posts them. They are a delicious addition to this yummy spaghetti squash, chicken & @kitehillfoods chive cream cheese casserole thingy I warmed up on the stove. I wish I could remember who shared the squash & cheese idea yesterday to say 🙏🏻, because it’s so delish! .

For the maters: place whole peeled tomatoes from a can in a glass baking dish in an even layer. Drizzle with 🥑 oil, sprinkle with seasoning of choice (I used @simplyorganicfoods chicken grilling seasoning) and pink salt then roast at 400’ until lightly charred (about 45 min). Remove from oven and drizzle with evoo. Enjoy 🙌🏻✨. .

Okay so... I hate taking selfies. But I want to highlight a few things. •

First, hi bicep! #guns 😏 I’ve never really had built arms, probably because I don’t really enjoy training them, but I’ve been working on them more often and yay #progress!! •

Second, I am not in “peak” shape. I decided to really enjoy my holidays this year, and I 100% have been. I’ve been saying yes to every party and dinner/brunch/whatever invitation, and therefore I’ve been perhaps *over* indulging. That being said, I like how I look! I’ve taken advantage of all the excess carbs and built some muscle and PRd my deadlift and jerk! The point of all that is, if you can learn how to manipulate your training and nutrient timing to maximize your indulgences, they can actually work for you. •

Ready for energy and clean eating? BOUNDLESS ENERGY SEED CEREAL Serves 1
1 handful raw pumpkin seeds
1 handful raw sunflower seeds
1 handful sesame seeds
1 tablespoon ground flax seeds

💐OVULATION💐

This phase of the cycle happens between days 12-18 and can last for 2-4 days.

High estrogen levels trigger the body to release the hormone Luteinizing Hormone (LH) causing the ovary to release one mature egg into the fallopian tube. Estrogen also continues to build the uterine lining for implantation, if it’s to occur. This is the only time during your menstrual cycle that you can get pregnant, if fertilization doesn’t happen within 24 hours, the egg will get absorbed by the body, and your body will start to prepare for another period.
If your cycle is connected to the moon phases, ovulation will happen during the Full Moon.
Signs of ovulation are:
✖️increased cervical mucus
✖️mild cramping
✖️breast sensitivity
✖️increased libido
✖️bloating
✖️increased energy

In Chinese Medicine, Yin energy is at its highest from the first half of the cycle and turns into Yang energy for the second half.

Some ways to connect to ovulation are:
✖️energy and sexuality are at their peak, so take advantage of it 😉
✖️if trying to become pregnant, have sex a few days before ovulation to make sure sperm are present during that time
✖️if not trying to become pregnant, take extra precautions with your form of birth control
✖️energy is at its highest so it’s a good time for creativity and getting stuff done

✖️do your most intense workouts during this time with all the energy you have

The continued quest for coffee-free satisfaction, with a kick of anti-inflammatory properties 🌟
Ingredients:
4 oz full fat coconut milk
4 oz water
1/8 tsp turmeric powder
1/8 tsp ginger powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cacao powder
1 pinch black pepper
1-2 scoops @vitalproteins peptides

Heat milk and water in a small pot on stove just until simmers.

Instead, I actually ended up gaining about 15 pounds. I felt moody and irritable all the time, and my workouts really started to suffer because I was so fatigued. This macronutrient ratio was obviously not working for my body, but because so many major functional medicine healthcare professionals and influencers insisted that a high fat/low carb was the key to optimal health, I continued down this path. It wasn’t until I started noticing the higher carb/lower fat meals in your Instagram posts that I realized maybe my body needed more carbs. And also, maybe my body didn’t need as much healthy fat as I had been lead to believe. Over the past 3 months, I’ve been including more carbs and lowering my fat intake a bit, and as a result, I’ve lost 5lbs (without cutting calories or depriving myself!) My periods are also more regular than they've ever been, and according to my labs, I am no longer insulin resistant. I really can’t believe it. I have TONS of energy to get through my day and workouts, and I actually feel good afterwards. I’m also no longer bingeing, as I’ve realized my carb deprivation was causing some pretty serious bingeing on foods that I had deemed “off limits”. For someone with a history of disordered eating, PCOS, and hypothyroidism, this is a huge victory - such a big difference that was fully inspired by your posts! It feels good to be listening to my body again and feeding it what it actually needs, rather than just following a strict paleo template. Thank you!”

: From Survival to Thrival :
The wild, animalistic nature of women is so often shamed - but truly, we owe the survival of our species to the instinctual pulses of the body. We must use awareness to listen deeply to the messages - while simultaneously wading through the fear that is projected upon us everyday - the fear that can so often cause disconnection + disbelief in the Self and the body that holds it. To simplify the human hormone system - we can look at two different pathways of experience. The first pathway is one of Fear and Survival - connected to the stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol. Before industrialization spread across much of the world - humans lived in deep connection with nature. While this deep connection brought an incredible opportunity to create intimacy between human and Earth - it also presented dangers. Snakes, bears, tigers - depending on where your ancestors were in the world - they would most likely run into one of these animals ever so often, presenting a life threatening situation that required immediate action to survive. Cue adrenaline, the fast acting human stress hormone released from the adrenal glands. When released, adrenaline increases heart rate, and pumps blood away from the internal organs. Adrenaline disconnects the senses from propreoceptors, which are tiny cells of awareness located throughout the body that help the brain to calculate the body’s location in time and space, as well as support pain coping and management. COMBINE DRY
½ cup coconut flour
2 tbsp cassava flour
2 tbsp cacao powder
1 scoop collagen peptides
¼ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp sea salt
2 tsp cinnamon
COMBINE WET
3 whole eggs
1.5 tbsp Brain octaine
1 tbsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp coconut milk
1 tsp honey (mas for sweeter )
BAKE 325 10 mins!
