Competing is not about placing or winning trophies! Of course we set up goals and ultimately want to reach greater heights in this regard. The bigger goal is to become the best version of ourselves. To inspire ourselves and to be inspiring. To dig deep and find something within ourselves that we didn’t know was there.
For us at @fitbodyfusion There is an even greater goal! Our goal is to live a healthy lifestyle above and beyond all else. To be an example to others as to how to take good care of ourselves body mind and spirit. Our other major goal is to create a family that supports and uplift each other. To form relationships that go deep and last a lifetime. These goals have nothing to do with competing and don’t require a team member to compete. I no longer compete & this lifestyle is still just as prevalent for me as ever! I feel grateful to be turning 48 this month and feeling better then in my 20s!

There’s a misconception that it’s time consuming and difficult to make healthy, nourishing food. And while I do sometimes spend hours in my kitchen creating and preparing (because I thoroughly enjoy doing so), more often than not my meals take no more than 15-20 minutes to prepare.
Whole, nourishing foods are right at our fingertips, yet often times we can be sucked in by packaging and marketing from brands selling highly processed, prepackaged, overpriced foods, or fast food restaurants marketing how convenient it is to drive thru on your way home from work.
There’s no hiding that it takes some planning and preparation to eat healthy and clean, but the benefits on the mind and body outweigh any marketing scam tenfold.
For these cabbage boats, I peeled off the outer layers from a head of purple cabbage, filled them with some sautéed Japanese sweet potatoes + dino kale + zucchini, and topped them with homemade almond pesto (recipe is on my blog) + avocado + broccoli sprouts. Luteal phase on fleek y’all 💪🏼
No need to make it complicated or stressful.
Keep it simple, colorful, and whole 🌈

Sleep, exercise and nutrition. These are just three things that affect our hormones. 💕Hormones are chemical messengers in the body that control most major body functions. If our goal is fat loss, instinctively, we may try to exercise more and eat less. However, if taken to the extreme, hormones can go haywire.🤪 This usually leads to lethargy, weight gain, muscle loss, irritability…the list goes on and on. 📝 One way to help stabilize hormones is to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night. When you see yourself every day, you don't realize the changes you've made. Some days you feel lean, and energetic. Some days you feel HEAVY, dense, and unmotivated. .
I've been feeling more like the latter lately and I'm glad I dug through my pictures to find some more than just a couple months old to give myself an extra push.

💫 Tuesday Tune Up 💫

Yes, organic food is more expensive than conventional food. I don't always buy organic, but I do as much as I can. I focus on real food, rather than processed food. Before I started focusing on whole, real foods, I spent less at the grocery store. I also spent way more time feeling like crap, and way more money paying copays at the doctor's office for visits, blood tests, antibiotics, steroids, you name it. I spent more on over the counter allergy meds and indigestion meds. I took more days off work. I spent wayyyyyyyy more on fancy skincare products trying to make myself look less like a vampire. I spent more on clothes, because my weight was always fluctuating. If I actually added all that up, I'm certain the extra money I'm spending at the grocery store wouldn't be anywhere near when I was spending on being sick before. If I have to buy one less fancy shampoo per month so that I can maintain a way of eating that builds health, I think it's worth it. And I'm certain I'll be happy I made the change when I'm 90 and still enjoying life.

While the look on the left is def NOT healthy, it was def fun! While it lasted LOL! I walked around looking like that for 3 years and my body finally said ENOUGH! Without me wanting it, i put on some body fat and now slowly trying to get healthy, balance my hormones and hopefully balance this weight out🤣🤣

If you’re going thru this, YOURE NOT ALONE! The key to surviving is focusing on other things than aesthetics. Find something else to take up your time and don’t do ab checks every 5 minutes LOL! The road to health is bumpy but it will be worth it in the end😁

As progesterone begins to fluctuate, women in perimenopause often experience changes to their monthly periods. Sometimes periods get heavier, lighter, shorter, less frequent or more frequent. This is a common experience, but it isn’t yet common knowledge.

We have a tendency to associate menopause with hot flashes. And while hot flashes and night sweats can be disruptive to a woman’s quality of life, there are many other changes that don’t get as much airtime.

Abnormal bleeding accounts for 70% of all gynecological visits, according to the International Menopause Society. Women might be less worried if they knew what to expect. That said, consulting your health care practitioner for bleeding that’s different in frequency, regularity, duration or amount is always a good idea for no other reason than to rule out a more serious concern, such as fibroids or cancer.

Looking for connection and validation? There’s this amazing place called the Menopause Chicks Private Online Community (#linkinbio). It’s one part social learning and one part peer support. Our mission is to empower women to navigate perimenopause-to-menopause with confidence and ease.
And last weekend, we passed another milestone: 6,000 members. Is this number meaningful? Yes and no. Yes, from the perspective that I grew up in a town with a population of 2,000 so the fact that this “little” community has grown to three times that size is meaningful (and heart-warming and overwhelming) to me. But no, the total number really doesn’t mean a thing when a) by 2025 there will be an estimated 1.1 billion post-menopausal women in the world and b) we meet women where they are...one at a time.

What can you do instead of looking at your phone (or at least your "problem" apps) when you wake up? Some ideas Try some gentle stretching in bed, journaling (your to-do list, gratitude and affirmations, daily goals), read something that helps set your mood for the day (like a chapter in a good self-help book), or try a meditation app instead. Or try just getting up and doing something else instead - especially if you struggle with time to make breakfast or lunch because of morning scrolling.

These moments ❤️. This is from yesterday before we got our refrigerator and were living out of a cooler! Family breakfast picnic! Let’s talk about baby eats, shall we?

Feeding your child can make parents defensive, and rightfully so. We all love our children and are doing our very best by them. This is by no means the “right” way. Based on my research and training, this is the way that makes the most sense to me. We’ve done a combination of baby led weaning and purees from the beginning, we just went with what we were comfortable. H is a very independent little guy and loves to feed himself, so baby led has been our primary method.

It’s typical for babies first foods to be a cereal or some sort of grain. Grains can be hard on a baby’s digestive system and, per a Swedish study, infants given substantial amounts of cereal may suffer from a low concentration of zinc and reduced calcium absorption. Our little guy gets meats, namely organ meats (sourcing matters! We use @uswellnessmeats. Easy for baby to mash in his mouth) so he’s getting easily absorbable heme iron, protein so that iron is better absorbed, and unlike cereal, meat doesn’t bind to the zinc in a baby’s body, making it difficult to absorb. Wild caught sardines are another favorite for this little dude. We also like to concentrate on fats since quality fat is SO important for a baby’s growth and development. Coconut oil, avocado, butter, full fat dairy, and fats from properly sourced, humanely raised animals are just some of our personal examples. We also focus on foods such as nutrient rich fruits and fermented foods for good gut health and beneficial gut flora. He loves sauerkraut!

Just remember, mama. We’re all out here just trying to do our very best every day for our kiddos. I want to use my platform to provide some education on this subject- our kids are our future and in a time where autoimmune disease, childhood obesity and juvenile diabetes are rampant, what we feed our kids MATTERS.
