“To me, grieving well means to go through the grieving process and come to a place of closure and peace. Did I grieve well? Yes and no. I feel I was able to acknowledge the loss of my babies and grieve them well, but I still harbor hurt over how others close to me ignored my losses as if my babies didn't matter or never really existed."

Three generations decorated sugar cookies today! It was absolutely chaotic, loud, and so much fun! These kinds of special memories are so rich, especially when you bring into focus the details. Grandmas, daughters, sons, and grandkids all together participating in a memory making activity. Last week we took a look at the lives of Jonathan and David in 1 Samuel 18, 19, & 20. “Jonathan did not consider the throne a thing to be grasped, but for the sake of God he made himself nothing and became a Christ-like servant. Let us also “have this mind.” (Phil. 2:5)”

The final evening of Hanukkah, the second Sunday of advent, and the lights of the Christmas season - all glowing together through a cold dark night. It’s hard to put into words how much healing and joy I’ve experience this year being able to bring all the seemingly disjointed pieces of myself into an unexpected and beautiful harmony.
Happy Holy-days! 🕎🕯🎄#adoptee

Hi, friends. I hope you have had a wonderful weekend. I’m ending the night in contemplation and a whole lot of hope. Here are some words from Tish Harrison Warren in her book Liturgy of the Ordinary: 📖 “We live in a brutal world. But in the life of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit we glimpse redemption and participate in it. We have a telos as we wait, an ultimate purpose and aim. Because we have a telos—a kingdom where peace will reign and where God is worshiped—we can never wrap our lives in little luxuries and petty comforts and so numb ourselves to God’s prophetic call for justice and wholeness in this world. Our hope for a future of shalom motivates us to press toward that reality, even in our ordinary days. Our work, our times in prayer and service, our small days lived graciously, missionally, and faithfully will bear fruit that we can’t yet see.” Yes. 🕯 #shalom #justice #hopeliveshere #holyordinary #redemption #selah

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:14
*
How do you define peace? What do you do when life feels chaotic? How can you bring the gift of peace to your family and friends? To those that are hurting, suffering or grieving?
*
We can be both peace-keepers and peace-makers because we follow Christ. By embodying the peace we have found through Christ we can share the gift of peace with others.

God never asks us to figure everything out on our own. He just asks us to trust Him. To recognize His Sovereignty in our lives. And He promises to make our pathways straight. We can't always see what's up ahead, or all that's around the next bend, but He can. And we are safe in His care.
Peace.❤✌️

She believed she could... and then the frosting packet had a hole in it, and the walls began to slide, and she knew she just.could.not.

For all the moms out there trying to make the holiday season amazing for your littles, but it looks more like this collapsed pile of gingerbread dreams- take a breath, make another cup of coffee, and remember that perfection is not what you’re called to.

If God puts this much detail into a snowflake, what makes you think your life is any less important???⁣

Woke up to find the world outside covered in a beautiful layer of ice. It’s interesting how the freezing of things also seems to freeze time, or at least slow it down. Have you ever stood outside in an ice or snow covered world and noticed the unique stillness and quiet? The world seems to be on pause and I find it incredibly remarkable and magical. Ever since finishing A Severe Mercy last month, I think on these words about time: “Then, if we complain of time and take such joy in the seemingly timeless moment, what does that suggest? It suggests that we have not always been or will not always be purely temporal creatures. It suggests that we were created for eternity. Not only are we harried by time, we seem unable, despite a thousand generations, even to get used to it. We are always amazed by it--how fast it goes, how slowly it goes, how much of it is gone. Where, we cry, has the time gone? We aren't adapted to it, not at home in it. If that is so, it may appear as a proof, or at least a powerful suggestion, that eternity exists and is our home.” #chasingslow #winterwonder #aseveremercy

It's Sunday, and that means it's time to rest, regroup, and remember. Warm up a cup of tea, grab your journal, and start writing.... Start with this prompt below

I remember very clearly when I was in high school, my pastor shared from the pulpit, "if Satan can't make you bad, he'll make you busy." Those words resonated with me because I wasn't really morally tempted, but I did struggle with priorities (and still do). In this age of instant downloads, and never ending social media feeds, how have you been present? Are you physically there but emotionally and spiritually distant? Are you engaged with those around you or are you just seen? Are you enjoying the moment, dwelling on the past, or preoccupied with the future? What do you need to let go of to be more present this week?

Good Morning! ☀️ Repost from @drmichellebengtson- Have you ever wrestled with God's word? How could His yolk be easy and His burden light? Nothing about my circumstances felt easy or light, but rather heavy and overwhelming, yet I wanted that. I wanted to live freely and lightly. I wanted to learn from Him.

Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG) echoed in my head, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learned the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Verse 30 from the NIV says, “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” We don’t have to have all the answers. As we run to Him for help, for refuge, we can be confident in the hope from the promise of His word. This hope is an anchor for our souls. Our God is unchangeable. If He says it, we can believe it. If He promised, it will come to pass.

What are you wrestling with today?

Tony and I came down south last night for his company’s holiday party and woke up to this beautiful view. What a gift it is on this Sunday morning. In the midst of the busy Christmas season and packing to move, I’m trying to pay close attention to sweet surprises from God. What are you paying attention to lately? I would love to know. Happy Sunday! 🌟

Advent Week 2: Preparation
.
.
If you’re participating in the #adventstillnesschallenge, we get to spend 6 minutes in still silence, preparing room in our hearts for the presence of the Lord. Make way! Make straight! He has come, is here, and is coming! .
.
.
Instead of focusing on the inhale, think about exhaling fully. Make room in your lungs for fresh air, make room in your heart for His Spirit. Exhale for 6 counts, until your inhale reflex springs your lungs to breathe. Feel the desperation of your lungs for life, and know the desperate state of your heart without the Lord. .
.
If you would like these prints to display in your own house and share with your people, you can get them (and all the rest of the Scriptures you see on my Insta) when you subscribe to my email list with link in profile. Social media is great, but I want to equip you to live this out in real flesh-and-blood life. Because Jesus is alive, and wants to meet you right where you are. .
.
After meditating on this verse, what sticks out to you? Is 6 minutes hard to spend in stillness and silence? Why? 🌟

Peter said, “You are the Anointed One, God’s Messiah!”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭9:20‬ ‭

In this season of Christ-mas. We must decide what we believe of God. This answer can derive from no where but in our own hearts. Who do we believe he is? Do we believe that he is a provider, friend, father, or as Peter responded “the anointed one.” Here’s what I know when we approach the holidays in pain due to love ones we have lost, when it seems we can’t buy all the things our children want and need, when our marriage is ridged, our kids are rebellious. When we are stuck in the hospital, jobless, or battling with our minds. When we are single, married with a deployed spouse. It’s hard to believe.
I pray that in the season where we believe in the magic of a season. We will believe in the son of the season who died to take care of you and me.
So may I ask what do you believe?

"The very purpose of Christ's coming into the world was that he might offer up his life as a sacrifice for the sins of men. He came to die. This is the heart of Christmas." Rev. Billy Graham
