As the former Executive Director of a local rescue ( #LovePup ) I saw the return rate firsthand due to dogs acting out aggressively either with other dogs or children. Approximately 3.2 million shelter animals are adopted each year (1.6 million dogs and 1.6 million cats). About 710,000 animals who enter shelters as strays are returned to their owners. Of those, 620,000 are dogs. This is the sad truth! If you love animals and want to help, KEEP YOURS - AND take charge by getting he/she into training as early as possible! . . .

Meet Maverick -> My brother rescued Maverick from #LovePup while I was the Executive Director. We had very limited information on his past other than he was six months old and a German Shepherd Belgian Malinois mix that came from a breeder. The day he was dropped off I took him directly to meet my brother and sister in law. When he met them he was set off barking aggressively, circling me, lunging at them. It took us an hour before I could pass off the leash. For months Maverick had random aggression towards my brother and sister in law then introduction aggression when meeting strangers, and to top it off he began getting reactive to just about everything in sight, dogs, chairs, vacuums. He was mouthing and jumping and truthfully exhausting my entire family. I tell you this because THAT dog is now THIS dog who is rolling all over the ground with a puppy, and can be trusted to lick food off of children, or snuggle up on the couch with his humans. No one ever thought THAT dog could be THIS dog. It was very difficult for my family to have hope but with a little bit of training and slow introductions we were able to help slow Maverick down so as he started to get stressed and feel all that anxiety come up we were right beside him ready to show him how to interact in those situations that excited him. Maverick just needed a little bit of guidance and #HopeRose for this pup to be the addition to the family that they always wanted him to be! #HopeRoseProject #LovePup #BigDogsLittleGirl #offleash #germanshepherdsofinstagram #belgianmalinoisofinstagram #aggressivedogtraining
