BREAKING NEWS: Chief Arvol Looking Horse speaks at NoKXL Treaty Signing press Conference: 3-2 conditional vote by Nebraska Public Utilities Commission for KXL Route, permits granted. •

“Today, man has gone too far. (The approval) It’s affecting our first medicine. From this approval, it’s like signing our death warrant for us.” -Chief Arvol Looking Horse •

The fight isn’t over. With this approved route in Nebraska, includes 6 new counties and new landowners, meaning, more lawsuits, appeals, and push for full environmental review. It’s not over. Divest from Wells Fargo, from banks that are investing in TransCanada and other fossil fuel infrastructure projects. We’ve stopped KXL before, we can do it again. We have our youth leading and learning from us. Sister Lauren Howland spoke passionately, representing the International Indigenous Youth Council, stating that unity is needed, no more fighting among our elders.
In conclusion: “With the strong hearts we have, we will prevail.” (Faith Spotted Eagle) To support the movement to KXL, visit nokxlpromise.org for more information! ✊🏽🖤

"Women & 2 Spirits are the Backbone of Every Tribe 🦋 For #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, we recognize and uplift Indigenous women. 🌈✨ 2 Spirit is a pan-Indigenous term that reflects traditional Indigenous views regarding gender and sexuality that falls beyond the scope and definitions under the western LGBT umbrella. ·

This mural was created by Bay Area artist Elizabeth Blancas. Blancas intentionally chose to center #Indigenous women in her art especially women who were on the frontlines of fighting the #NoDAPL pipeline at Standing Rock. 💧 After being granted permission from the individuals featured, Elizabeth moved forward centering & highlighting Caro Gonzales (top right) and Lauren Howland (bottom left) for their community leadership & activism. 🙌🏽 #RiseUpAsOne

This week on @for.the.wild is our #SlowFood friend, environmentalist activist, economist, writer, orator, Winona LaDuke. She is a living embodiment of radical earth activism and Indigenous sovereignty.

As the Founder and executive Director of Honor the Earth (@honortheearth), Winona is fighting against pipelines while simultaneously creating tangible solutions for oil independence. •
She is rooted in the White Earth Anishinaabe Nation located in Becker, Clearwater, and Mahnomen counties of north-central Minnesota and is the founding member of @slowfoodturtleisland, the first indigenous-led slow food association in the world.

Winona is currently raising funds to purchase Winona’s Hemp and Heritage Farm in Osage, MN where she is plans to cultivate acres of industrial hemp and foster the next generation of Anishinaabe land stewards. Her Kickstarter is only 6 days away from ending! Support her in restoring the hemp economy in Minnesota . .

We have walked down the scorched path of fossil fuels and GMO’s for too long. With Winona’s Hemp and Heritage Farm, we are moving forward armed with our ancestral wisdom to create the regenerative economies our children deserve to inherit. To do this, we will work with tribal and non-tribal producers to create a value-added hemp industry. The industry will focus on hemp fiber for paper, clothing and hemp food products. It’s time for us to move forward towards a green future. It’s time for Winona’s Hemp •
Winona’s Hemp and Heritage Farm will generate local wealth in our community by establishing a training institute for indigenous foods and hemp farming and working with our youth to create the next generation of Anishinaabe farmers. •
Help her reach her goal and follow @winonaladuke on Instagram today. •

Greetings community. We are coming off of a deep and transformative weekend with @zenchangeangel
To borrow a line from Rumi, please friends, do not scatter and sleep, our friendship is made of being awake. Please join us Thursday morning from 9:30-11am for our annual Giving Thanks fundraiser practice. All funds will be donated directly to Honor the Earth, an indigenous organization working diligently to divest from toxic systems on behalf of all living beings. That is big work, and we can learn from each other how to do it. And that is much to be thankful for.
@sweethometeacup will be leading the practice♥️please plan on arriving early as this class fills up. Cash and checks only, though none will be turned away for lack of funds.
In love and collective liberation,
always

My favorite aromatherapy book to date. This book is a rich source of information regarding the use of aromatherapy for restoring health on a multitude of levels, and is written from a largely TCM point of view. I don't use essential oils much or often, but I do find myself using them occasionally, when practical and appropriate. ✨
With the rise in interest of essential oils and aromatherapy and other natural medicines, I strongly believe in educating oneself and not taking every Facebook post or blog for face value. Many people are well-meaning and provide the information they have, AND, it's always a good idea to get as full a picture as possible. Especially with something like essential oils, which are a very concentrated form of plant medicine. ✨
Do you use essential oils? What are your favorites?? .

I’m very honored to have produced this weeks For The Wild with one of my heroes Winona La Duke. Ever the radical visionary and pragmatic leader, Winona currently has a kickstarter campaign to establish a hemp farm on her White Earth Reservation in Minnesota. In doing so, not only is she rekindling an ancient indigenous use of hemp, but she also has a view to resurrecting the Minnesota hemp industry - the state was the America’s greatest supplier of hemp before William Randolph Hearst and co infamously sabotaged it. Viewing this remarkable plant without the taboo imposed on it by this era, we can see that hemp is our friend, our guide, our medicine and our partner in healing our sick planet.
She deserves our support in this process!! Find the kickstarter link in @winonaladuke ’s bio and check out the episode via iTunes etc or @for.the.wild 💚

🚨210,000 gallons of oil leaked Thursday from Keystone Pipeline in South Dakota🚨 .
〰〰〰〰〰〰〰〰〰〰〰〰〰
❄️ Remember, this time last year when hundreds of water protectors / "protestors" went to #standingrock to stand against #NDAPL in freezing temperatures & were hosed down with cold water & shot with rubber bullets by local police because they believed that standing for protecting clean water meant more than having their right of peaceful protest violated ❄️ remember that they were willing to do this because they knew that this pipeline would inevitably leak, despite #transcanada promising no such thing would happen. . . well . . . They told them so, & it did. 210,000 gallons is a lot of oil 💔 You know shit's real when corporate interest means more than the environment, human rights, morality, ethics, & the probability that the very thing they say won't happen is less than what will actually happen. . . they were going to build this thing knowing it would leak, & they were willing to shoot & spray anyone standing in the way. They thought we weren't watching 👁. Original photos by 📸: @josue_foto ✊🏽 #whenyouwishitwasfakenews 📺
