Today’s adventures to me to Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera 💞 one of my favourite towns which homes my dream finca 😍
Santa Gertrudis is characterized for being one of the most motley and cosmopolitan towns in the municipality and the entire island.
Like many towns of the island the origins of Santa Gertrudis began around the church. It is named after the patron Saint Santa Gertrudis. A small urban area was built in the church’s surroundings that still maintain its original structure. The church and most of the restaurants and shops are located in the town centre, which boasts a large pedestrian square.
Santa Gertrudis is located at the very centre of the island. It offers you the possibility of spending a nice afternoon shopping, walking or tasting some of the famous sandwiches “bocadillos” in any of the many terrace. In the shops you may find different unique art pieces, accessories, decoration items, antiques, leather, etc.
A large number of Santa Gertrudis’ residents live in scattered rural houses which have been renovated preserving their traditional ibicencan style.
The church was finished in 1797. It has the highest bell tower of all the churches in the island, built in 1899. Its facade shows later additions to the original temple, which were probably built around 1890. The sanctuary preserves the original wooden altarpiece with a modern image of Santa Gertrudis from the end of the 18th century.
