A brief overview of; Ragnar Lothbrok, legendary Norseman, after inheriting the kingdoms of Denmark and Sweden, said to have lead successful raids in both the Frankish empire and British Isles. His greatest accomplishment was leading the Great Heathen Army against Northumbria in the 9th century, founding Jorvick, now York as their capital, the city that would remain the heathen capital of Britain until Wessex's annexation of England. His death by the hands of the king of East Anglia caused the event of the vengence of the Great Heathen Army, the legendary viking invasion of England, of his sons and counter-parts leading a coalition in a quest to annex England and it's still disconnected kingdoms. His claimaint sons were Ivar the Boneless, soon king of the heathen Northumbria and Dublin, Björn Ironside, later king of Sweden, Halfdan Ragnarsson first Norse king of Northumbria and claimant of the kingdom of Dublin, Hvitsek, also known as White-Shirt, possibly the same person as Halfdan, Sigurd Snake-In-The-Eye, one of the legendary warriors of the Great Heathen Army, and Ubba, another legendary warrior of the army.
His existence is debatable however, with some scholars stating Ragnar is a collaberation of 7 figures.
I've written this as a sort of introduction to the viking age, which is why this is quite brief and simple.
