A photo posted by @fuehrer_of_photography Shown in the photograph above, Hitler reacts to kiss from an excited American woman at the Berlin Olympics, in 1936. Shortly before the finish of the men’s 1500 meters free-style swimming, a woman in a red hat, whom Black Guards repeatedly prevented from photographing Hitler at close range, broke the cordon during the excitement of the finish of the race, shook Hitler by the hand and then kissed him, while the crowd of 20,000 rocked with laughter. Hitler, who was in high spirits, joined in the fun, clapping his hands as the woman returned triumphantly to her seat. The woman, Carla De Vries, was a 40-year old American traveling in Europe. Her brother-in-law was quoted in that “She wanted to meet Hitler but I’m surprised at the way she did it”. Her rationale from her own words? “Why? I simply embraced him because he appeared so friendly and gracious. People sitting near Der Fuehrer’s box began to cheer and applaud so loudly that I ran back to my husband and told him we had better leave. I don’t know why I did it. Certainly I hadn’t planned such a thing. It’s just that I’m a woman of impulses, I guess. It happened when I went down to take Hitler’s picture with my small movie camera. Hitler was leaning forward, smiling, and he seemed so friendly that I just stepped up and asked for his autograph, which he wrote on my swimming ticket. He kept on smiling and so I kissed him”. For their failure to halt the woman, several of Hitler’s hulking Schutzstaffel guards were dismissed in disgrace, several more were demoted in rank.

Take a step back in time and paddle through history along the BLM Upper Missouri Wild and Scenic River in Montana: “The hills and river Clifts which we passed today exhibit a most romantic appearance…. The bluffs of the river rise to hight of from 2 to 300 feet and in most places nearly perpendicular; they are formed of remarkable white sandstone which is sufficiently soft to give way readily to the impression of water…” Meriwether Lewis, May 31, 1805.
.
You can camp in the same locations as the 1805 Lewis and Clark expedition on your multi-day canoe expedition down the “Big Muddy”. The river is a relatively easy paddle with current and riffles but no major rapids. Along the way, camp under the shade of spreading cottonwoods and try your luck catching a paddlefish – some weigh over 100 pounds. The Breaks Country surrounding the river offers opportunities for scrambles and cross country hikes to the bluffs above. .
The unique geology and harsh landscapes that were extensively described by Lewis and Clark are in a condition that has changed little since the passage of the expedition. Historic homesteads dot the river banks, and remnants of the steamboat era remain in inscriptions that were etched on the rock walls. .

"La Fleur Qui Écoute" (1891) by #PaulGauguin (1848-1903)
Oil on Canvas
29.7 x 26.2 cm
Private Collection.

This intimate portrait of a young woman dates from #Gauguin& #39;s first trip to Tahiti (1891-1893). Although the model's identity is not clear, the portrait is probably one of his first depictions of a Polynesian.

Este tierno e íntimo retrato de una joven data del primer viaje que #Gauguin realizó a Tahití, entre 1891 y 1893. Aunque la identidad de la modelo no está clara, el retrato es probablemente una de las primeras representaciones de un polinesio.

It was made by Garrard in 1854 out of existing Londonderry pieces like a belt, some of the insignia of the Order of the Garter and more to make this new set. Garrard also said in its original estimate that it could divide into a comb and brooches. Ah I love a versatile piece! It seems Frances Anne, the wife of the third Marquess commissioned this piece herself but along came Marchioness Theresa, wife of the sixth Marquess and she not being content with the tiara decided to do a little upgrade. The family also had a wonderful set of pearls that could be mounted on top to make it look taller and what did Miss Theresa do? You’re right, she wore those pearls with great aplomb. Geoffrey Munn quotes in his book, “She reveled in personal splendor, she frankly and unmitigatedly enjoyed standing at the head of her stairs…with the ‘family fender’ as she called that nice diamond crown on her most comely head.” It’s was said that Theresa had a forceful personality and wielded plenty of influence seeing as she was a renowned society hostess. One comedic blunder happened to Theresa at the coronation of King Edward VII when the tiara slipped off her head and landed in the toilet. She later summoned a helper to rescue it with a pair of forceps. See good people, it can happen to any of us…especially if we’ve had too much champagne. By the time Edith, wife of the seventh Marquess came along the tiara was so popular, that when she brought it out after WWI she was criticized for doing so. The Illustrated London News jumped to her defense calling the piece “a heritage, and one in which Britishers all round take a vicarious pride.” The piece is still in the family to this day but has been leant to the Victoria and Albert Museum for their exhibits. It really is a spectacular piece and I can see why it’s displayed so well, what a treat it would be to see it in person one of these days. What do you think of this one? #antique #atiaraaday #britishroyals #diamonds #history #jewelry #monarchy #marchioness #londonderry #royalty #royaljewels #tiara #londonderrytiara #

Another lovely piece from "A Third Gender" exhibition at the Japan Society. This one is from the mid 1700s by Suzuki Harunobu and (supposedly) portrays two male crossdressers who put combs in their hair to appear as women. 👗 (I MODiFIED THE COLORS IN THE PIECE SO THEY ARE BRIGHTER)
.
.
crossdressing was common in Japan in the 1600's and 1700's . 👗. . .
.
This piece called the "Fan Seller" has a young man with translucent robe and strategically positioned fan. It is a male because of the shaved top part of head which was common. .
.
A hug for anyone who actually read all of this

Finally got a look at the Buddhist art exhibit in Nashville at the Frist! 😍🙏🏻 It is incredible. They even laid it out in a Mandala form. You must go see this if you're in Nashville! Also I got to see the Irving Penn exhibit upstairs (not pictured). It is a wonderful display of the breadth of his photographic interests through his career. 👌🏻😍 @fristcenter .
