Today's WWII relative highlight comes from @kstockdale386!
Her grandfather, Charles H. Foley Jr., was born in Boston, MA, in 1924. He served with the @usarmy 89th Infantry Division in the European Theater. The "Rolling W" crossed the Rhine in Germany, then worked with Payton's Third Army to liberate Ohrdruf, a sub-camp of Buchenwald. Ohrdruf was the first concentration camp liberated by American troops in April, 1945.
Charlie Foley took leave in Paris during the war, where this picture was taken. Two of his granddaughters, Kerry and Emma Foley, retraced his footsteps through Europe last summer pausing in Paris to recreate the photo.
After VE Day, Charlie studied at Biarritz University in France before returning to America and working for the FBI for 35 years.
Charlie died in 2006 in New Jersey. He's remembered with love and pride by his 6 children, 20 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
