These photos were taken circa 1870s. Early Chinese immigrants in particular were widely recruited to work on the North Pacific Coast Railroad which led to Point Reyes. From there, Chinese and Filipinos were among many immigrants that found opportunities to become cooks, house servants, and butter makers though dairying at Point Reyes. A Chinese cook is seen here in a photo with ranchers at Historic F Ranch. During the last decades of the 19th century, anti-Asian backlash was fueled by high unemployment which increased resentment against Asian settlers, anti-Asian legislation (i.e. Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882), and growing nativism, erupting into violent riots all over the west coast, almost everywhere where Asians settled. The effects of early Asian American history are still evident, even if the events are widely unacknowledged. Photos: Jack Mason Museum of West Marin History. As Historic Preservation month comes to an end, we leave you with one last thought from our preservation team. Dennis has always been a history buff and is interested in finding out what makes a place unique. He says with every historic project he works on, he becomes more excited for what the next discovery will be. Sometimes it's a revelation buried in the original plans, sometimes an equally interesting discovery buried in the walls.

Did You Know... The FEC Train Depot was built in 1915 and served the public until the mid 1960's. It then became a private residence in Tequesta until April 15, 2012 when it was moved to its current location in Sawfish Bay Park and has since been restored.

In honor of #MemorialDay weekend, our last feature of our #HistoricPreservationMonth #LandmarkSuccess campaign is the #UnitedStates #NavalAcademy in Annapolis, MD. Annapolis is prone to flooding and its buildings are prone to extensive salt damage once the winter's snow has thawed for the season. Our bio-cleaner, #masonry adhesive, M160 bluestone and S301 #paintstripper have all been used on the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis so that future sailors can continue to learn and graduate from this prestigious school.

Our last featured historic landmark for Historic Preservation Month is Stanley Aviation. This week’s Throwback Thursday photo is a c. 1990s photo of Stanley Aviation recently shared by a former employee, Richard Cook. Mr. Cook managed much of the plant’s facilities from 1989 until around 2007.
Stanley Aviation developed and manufactured ejection seats as well as flexible fueling solutions and other air and aerospace technologies. The plant operated at 2501 Dallas Street from 1954-2007. This past year, the Stanley Aviation building re-opened as Stanley Marketplace, a community-focused marketplace with over 50 independently owned Colorado businesses collectively offering a place to eat, drink, shop, exercise, play, work and more.
