Lam Thi Dep (Dep means beautiful in Vietnamese) was a Viet Cong female soldier who fought in the Vietnam War. The picture was taken in 1972 at Soc Trang Province by Vietnamese journalist Minh Truong when She was 18 years old. “You could find women like her almost everywhere during the war”, said the photographer. “She was only 24 years old but had been widowed twice. Both her husbands were soldiers”. North Vietnamese women were deeply involved at all levels of the military campaign throughout the war, especially at the business end, fighting against the American-led forces in the jungle. She is seen carrying an American M16 rifle. US-supplied South Vietnamese garrisons often gave these weapons to the Viet Cong as a gift, in exchange for being spared from their attacks.

"When women first appeared in the army?
Women have fought in the Greek Wars in the 4th century BC. Slovania women went to war with fathers and husbands... Women weren't afraid of death!

During the first World War in England, women have to take the Royal Military Air Force. Even in Russia, Germany, France, many women have served in military hospitals and sanitary trains. And in the 2nd World War, the world has witnessed the next phenomenon. Women have served in all forces in many countries: UK army- 225,000 in American- 500,000 in German- 500,000 in Soviet about one millionth... Women held all military posts including the all-male.
