A pattern from a book from 1843. Thanks to @threadforward for sharing your historical knit adventures - I'm inspired! 🙂 This one is called the German pattern. The yarn is Biggo from @knit_picks . It's like knitting with clouds. #knittersofinstagram #historicalknitting #knitpicks

Taking a break from my other projects to make a really simple hat. WW2 Beanie No. 212 with cables added into the 6 st. panels on the top. Not really sure what I'm going to do with it once it's done, I have too many hats already. #knitting #knittinglove #historicalknitting #craftastherapy

Wearing my #EleanoraSocks today. Forgot how much I love them. Based on the socks found in Eleanoro de Toledo's tomb. Link to the pattern page in my profile. #sockknittersofinstagram #historicalknitting

Pine Apple reticule. Knitted in silk after a 1840's receipt by Mrs Jane Gaugain and inspired by a extant regency piece in the Kyoto collections. #regencyfashion #19thcenturyfashion #regencyeveningwear #regency #historicalknitting

Do you remember my #16thcentury inspired stocking project? I had to redo the heel part twice, so there wasn't much of a progress on this piece. .. but now I think I got the look quite right. I'm #knitting them on #circularneedles from now on, it's easier to try them on for the measurements

Love this quote from a magazine article in 1892 that talks about smart Scottish ladies discreetly hiding away their knitting in their napkins during meals! ‘…the lady has taken her knitting to breakfast or luncheon. She has done a few new stitches before and after the meal, burying the needles in her table-napkin meanwhile.’ Think a lot of modern day knitters can relate to this level of obsession!

This is an extract from an article in the Dundee Evening Telegraph, available through the amazing British Newspaper Archive. See my blog in link above for more from this article- part of my series about the depiction of knitters in 19th century newspapers, From the archives-always knitting.
Picture is by Rennesfeld, from Rijksmuseum collection. #knitting #knittingobsessed #sockknitting #19thcentury #historicalknitting #vintageknitting #alwaysknitting #socialhistory #britishnewspaperarchive #scottishknitters #rijksmuseumamsterdam

The swag of this photo! Tobogganing in the hills over Oslo, in 1915-25 sometime. Standing with her back to the camera is queen Maud, and I suspect she's actually doing a bit of photographing herself here. She's seen with a camera in another photo. I love how the scarf has been firmly tucked under the belt in the back. Probably practical when sleighing. She also wears tan knitted gloves with long cuffs folded over the coat sleeves - ready to play in the snow! This photo was featured on TV in December 2016; I assume it's from the queen's private albums. #queenmaud #dronningmaud #tobogganing #winterwear #sleighride #historicalknitting

Another stunning 1890s knitted sweater shared by @romanticrecollections. This one is red with cream stripes, and made of wool. Now I'm pondering on how hard it could be to buy a knit fabric and sew something similar... (cause my knitting abilities is limited to small squares). I have been drooling over the knitted Belle Epoque sweaters @romanticrecollections has shared lately. I love the combo of fitted torso, high neck and gigot sleeves! Though some 10 years apart, and not at all identical, the pale knitted 1895 sweater from The Met (bottom, 2009.300.1111) still reminds me of some of Queen Maud's skiing sweaters from 1906-10. The one depicted here has asymmetric front closing and narrower sleeves, and was worn in a photo from 1906-07 sometime. #queenmaud #dronningmaud #knittedsweater #historicalknitting #themet #themetropolitanmuseumofart #strikkegenser #skiklær #sportswear #edwardian

Yes I'm naughty. I don't block things. Not with pins. The shawl edges are smoothed, then rolled, and left to dry.

The Sontag is finished, with only 437 yards. Very bad selfie, perhaps after dyeing and blocking I will post a pict with period appropriate dress.
