Minimally invasive surgery via laparoscopy is probably one of the neatest things I've been exposed to in vet school. It reduces incision size, pain, and healing time for our furry patients. AND it's been found that laparoscopy skills improve with video game usage. See ma? Told you video games were worth it 😛 // #HeyDrAndy#Isntthatneat#laparoscopy 👩🏻⚕️
A few years ago during an ER shift, a non-client brought in their dog that had passed away suddenly at home. Upon necropsy, it was found that the dog was suffering from a moderate heartworm infection and I took this picture. This illustrates why heartworm prevention is so important! Mosquitos are the vector but monthly preventatives are the key. Get some. Right now. Go. #vettech#veterinarytechnician#heydrandy#achybrachyheartworms ⬅️that's the best tag I've ever come up with
Much like humans, dogs can suffer from hernias. An umbilical hernia is a protrusion of the abdominal lining, abdominal fat, or abdominal organs through the area around the umbilicus. In the case of an umbilical hernia, there is an opening in the muscle wall at the dog's navel allowing contents of the dog's abdomen to protrude. An inguinal hernia is a condition in which the abdominal contents protrude through the inguinal canal or inguinal ring, an opening which occurs in the muscle wall in the groin area. This is a umbilical hernia on a dog that came into Newton Vet that was removed by Dr. Schneider!
