Do you have a stone wall on your property or a memory made at one? The original stone wall here was built in the 1880s from Appalachian stones. It lines the front main lawn, in view of Franklin Street down our short drive. True story: we committed our own engagement 115 years later when Todd proposed to Jacqi, sitting on a wall built in the 1880s from Appalachian stones on another Franklin Street, 300 miles away. Wonder how much Sarah and William sat on the wall here, then their 8 children, and then grandchildren over the decades. How many conversations, hugs, tears, falls, fireflies, and kisses? We’re restoring and repairing the wall. In turn, it will keep our secrets, just like theirs.

Tempted as I was to take pics of the frescoes before the torrential rain rolled in, I had to take some snaps of the temple guard instead :) Rain or shine, Xunantunich (derives from the Yucatec Maya language and means “Stone Woman") is spellbinding was rated by my travel homies as "the coolest ruins we've ever seen". Built around 600 CE and occupied for about 400 years, it's one of the oldest known achaeological sites in Belize, which hosts the southern extent of La Selva Maya (The Mayan Forest). La Selva is the largest rainforest in Mesoamerica, is historic and contemporary home of the proud Mayan people - population around 6 million - and hosts an incredible 20 different ecosystems. Much appreciation @sarahannecarter and @kathybigfoot for letting me tag along 🙌🏾 🌴🐦

South of the Potomac River, in Virginia, is the Smith Point Lighthouse. "Smith Point," at the mouth of the Potomac River, has been marked by a succession of lights, having been served by three towers, three lightships, a screw-pile lighthouse, and the present structure. The first light went up in 1802.

Opening 20 years after the last blast furnace went silent, the 45-foot high Hoover-Mason Trestle is a 1650-foot elevated linear park on the reclaimed industrial site of Bethlehem Steel. The trestle was originally an elevated narrow gauge rail line for raw materials, built around 1905.
Now the steel mill has quieted: birds now live and sing where once the din of the machinery and the heat would have driven them away. It's quiet now, a place to learn about and remember the hard work and sacrifice of the steel mill workers, whose efforts literally built America.
