Maxwell’s been waking up at 3 am lately and then my mind gets busy and it's hard to drift back to sleep... especially since I ran out of my hops and valerian tincture and am only now getting around to making another batch. The valerian slows my thoughts which allows me to get to a deep relaxed state so I can sleep perfectly without any grogginess when I wake up. (Interestingly, somewhere between 5% - 10% of people who take valerian have the opposite reaction. They get nervous, excitable, jumpy) I dumped this bowl of herbs into a big jar, covered the herbs with vodka, and set the jar on my counter. My teacher shared something about tinctures that is really interesting-- apparently most of the chemicals are infused into the alcohol within the first 24 hours. That means that I'll strain a little to use for the time being, and leave the rest of the to sit for a while and increase potency.
