"What is a hair toner exactly ? How long does it last ? "
After we finish taking out your foils and rinsing out your hair colour then towel drying, we tell you "I'll be right back, I'm going to get the toner for you" -which is sometimes met by a look of panic .....and questions follow such as.... "what's a toner?,what does it do?, did something go wrong?" " I don't want a toner because I don't want my hair to look grey !" So, I thought I'd share this with you today and talk to you about what a toner actually is. Toners are semi-permanent hair colours that we use on pre-lightened hair (hair that has been bleached )to either -
Cancel out yellow tones, orange tones, brassiness.
Add a particular look to your blonde. If you come in with ashy white hair, and this time you want more of a creamy or slightly warmer more glowy colour - this is what we mix up and apply to your hair after we take out the foils.
What this means : toner is not just purple or blue based colour to cancel out yellow hair.
We have an entire colour pallet of hair colour that we can use to completely personalise your hair tone. Plus, we also mix them together to get a shade that is completely individualised for YOU. We can mix soft golds in with creamy colours to get a slightly warm result if you don't want your hair to look too " flattened out". Once hair has been bleached, it can come out a really "raw "colour. The lightness might be there yes...but not everyone wants their hair to be super BRIGHT and sometimes having un toned hair just doesn't look natural. (Not everyone wants hair like Barbie !) A toner can help to soften the colour .
There are of course, exceptions to this rule. If your hair is already a lighter blonde naturally, many times we may not want to use a toner because your hair colour lightened beautifully and it just doesn't need one.
They are a deposit colour only, which means they won't do anything to your natural hair and they last about 4 to 5 weeks depending on how often you wash your hair .
If you wash your hair every day, expect your toner to fade out FAST.
If you wash it once a week, you will generally get a month of of nicely toned hair.
