“My love for sneakers goes as far back as I can remember. I grew up being very close to my youngest uncle (my mom’s youngest brother) and he used to wear loads of Superstars, Stan Smiths, and some Italian heritage brands like Fila and Lotto. I even got some hand me downs from him. He was my hero and I wanted to do everything the way he did it.
A memorable sneaker story... for me collecting sneakers is all about meeting and sharing with like-minded people. Just recently a friend from France helped me get a pair I honestly never thought I’d own, the Le Coq Sportif Eclat “Patachou” by LimitEDitions (only 88 pairs made). We had talked about them some time ago and when he saw a pair become available in my size he alerted me, negotiated the price with the seller, fronted the money for me, received them and shipped them out to me... keep in mind we’re both the same size and he also wanted them. It really doesn’t get more selfless and generous than that, so this pair has in-measurable value to me because it symbolizes friendship.
It depends on who you ask! My wife has gotten used to it (as long as I keep them organized she’s OK), my daughter gets excited when I get a new pair and is not shy to give me her opinion (we have rather different tastes). Probably the biggest fan is my youngest brother who happens to work indirectly in the sneaker world (he produces film and photography for lines such as Adidas Consortium). I’m originally from Bogotá, Colombia, and I have lived in Miami for almost 20 years (just dated myself right there haha).” @zapatero1975
